I don't believe anything he was showing would be beneficial to troops in field. I'm not impressed by glass or board breaking or the wannabe Ric Flair chop of death. I've studied martial arts since I was 8 years old. I was striking through boards as a child and was breaking concrete blocks by the time I was 10.
That type of stuff really isn't beneficial on the field.
For one, combat troops usually carry alot of gear on their chest (and if it's not some 3rd world militia they'll have body armor on.)
Things like that Rick Flair chop will do nothing but hurt your hand (he can break a board but can he break a kevlar plate or a magazine of 7.62?)
Then the amount of gear you're wearing makes it hard to move and strike efficiently.
This is why effective combat fighting comes down to breaking joint/bones/limbs, choking them to death, and weapons of opportunities (i.e. bashing the skull with a rock.)
The kung fu stuff might have a place for a one man Rambo on some secret mission without any gear. But let's keep it real...
