I think Freud was right about the extent to which sex subconsciously motivates so many of our daily decisions. I mean most of us could get by with a 4 cylinder ecobox car like an echo or used geo metro, but many of us want a car thats going to have some flash to it. All that money we could be saving, we are willing to spend it because a nicer car means more attention from women which in turn = sex.
How many of us want money not so much for the sake of money but because having it means you will have less competition for sex with more beautiful women?
I just got back from the gym. I see all these guys in there pumping iron. You don't need to do that in order to be healthy. Those hours you spend a week in the gym could be used more productively doing something else like volunteering or whatever. But they are putting all this work into making their bodies ripped because more masculine bodies = less competition for sex from beautiful women. If I'm honest with myself, that is my main reason for working out, I just want to give myself the best chance to get the best woman possible and it gives me an edge over a joe average downs 3 beers after work and spends his evening on the couch watching TV.
Most of our advertisements, the underlying message is our product = more sex from beautiful women. I was just thinking about those "Milk: It does a body good" commercials when I was growing up. They showed some puny kid trying to win the attention of a hot girl. Then he morphed into chiseled stud with the implication that he would now get the hot girl. Of course some corporation promoting dairy consumption figured it could sell more products if it associates them with sex, even though drinking milk per se won't do anything to put on muscles.
Myspace profiles, all they are is sexual advertisements for 90% of the people on there. Pictures trying to make themselves look sexy to attract more mates. I'm just blown away sometimes to the degree that are brains are in constant search of sex.
