Is the average 25-35 year old man physically out of shape?

I live in New Jersey and when I go out....it seems like 70% of the guys (25 to 40 or so) don't take care of themselves.

They have round faces, guts, and some have double chins.

It is like this everywhere?

What is wrong with these guys? Don't they want to attract women?

I will never understand what goes through a fat persons head!

You are narrowing it down too much.

I'd say the average human is out of shape. It's because of the sedentary lifestyle and processed foods.

What stands out to me is the perspective on such things. For example, at the gym I feel average/ above average in terms of athleticism. I feel like I fit in and am in 'above average' shape. In another instance, I will hang with my friends and go to a random graduate student event and feel like Tom Brady compared to any of the dudes there. If I am in a room full of engineers ( I am an engineer by trade), I feel like a GQ model. The point being is that ones perspective changes with venue. I have played pickup hockey with 50 year olds who can flat out fly and play the game. One guy was 60 and still had wheels, and I always told him how I respected his ability to get out there every shift and playing hard.

Nothing, really. You have to understand what goes through an ambitious persons head. What is their gold standard? who do they look up to? Fat people probably don't really care.

Of those women, I can count the ones who still look good on one hand. Less than 5% of women my age take care of themselves. To say that the "average" person is out of shape is a grand understatement. True, and the percent might be a little bit higher.

I think the problem has a lot to do with American's problem of being greedy/too focused on work. The average person is working well over 40hrs/week, whereas in Europe, it's more like 32hrs/week.

For those of us who work out, we know that it takes AT LEAST 3 days/week of moderate/intense working out, and I work out more like 6 days a week, and usually every day. If i include my getting dressed and shower time, that's 1.25 hrs/day on top of an American workday. So the average person just doesn't want to put in that much time since they're already exhausted from overworking and commuting.

I was in Panama with my brand about a year ago and I was the only American besides our C.O.O. in the group. Everyone else was Dutch. We were there working out some details of importing a rum and the women (as in most alcohol related business) were amazingly hot. So I'm there waiting for the sales guys to finish their talks and one of the Panamanian hostesses starts up a conversation with me.

She says, "You don't speak with a Dutch accent?", thinking I was Dutch by association. I said "No, I'm American" to which she replies "oh,..you don't look American." I laugh a bit and ask "well, what does an American look like?" So she then explains "they're all loud, fat and out of shape."

I also agree with the OP sentiment: I don't know how a fat person can stand to look at himself everyday after getting out of the shower and not IMMEDIATELY do something about the grotesqueness.

I start to freak out if I have even the slightest belly roll beginning to form (despite being moderately cut everywhere else).

A lot of it has to do with the fact that those guys pour a lot of their energy into their careers and so they skimp on taking care of themselves physically.

But anyways, pay no mind to them. They are ordinary. I am assuming you are extraordinary.

The skinny and normal looking ones aren't that great either. Many of them are weak, unfit and suffering from various health issues.

The vast majority of people just don't even think about these things. They just drift through life on emotion rather than using their brain.

I think the problem has a lot to do with American's problem of being greedy/too focused on work. The average person is working well over 40hrs/week, whereas in Europe, it's more like 32hrs/week.

Not to switch topics, but keep in mind that labor income is taxed at a much higher rate in Europe than in the US. That means the benefit of working an extra hour in a week is fairly small compared to in the US. Also,a lot more services are provided socially to the public than in the US which means people dont need as much disposable income. So it is not necessarily greed. If anything you can argue that Europeans are greedy in the sense of enjoying their own personal time. Dont forget that having free time is a valuable commodity just like items you purchase with money.

Lots of truth to this. That woman described American women perfectly. Loud, fat, sloppy. She is right. American men are still quite the international catch. Money and the lack of physical and mental abuse they put females through are huge things working the American males favor. Some of you have no idea how brutal some men (especially those from certain Russian speaking areas) can be towards gf's and wives. Astonishing.
