It seems to make sense in theory, have you tried it out?

been doing it for a little over three years, combining it with the warrior diet schedule and it works great for me.I'd overeat on my workout day and the day after for recovery purposes- those days i feel swole like a ma fugga ,i also only worked out once a week and still made tremendous gains in strengthn and density of the muscle belly. Now for summer, i am gonna do a military type fitness routine- actually just push ups, pull ups and ab work out M/W/F.About 400 push ups and 100 pull or chin ups..works like magic in getting me ripped quick, as far as the eating goes- i pretty much just eat alot on the weekends and then follow the warrior diet M-F.

I plan on working out 3-4 Days a week and having an 'athletic' day on sunday. Should I lower my calories on my rest days or what.

I'm also thinking about combining this and the paleo diet, along with some possible supplementation.

i'd defintely eat more on the recovery days and then lightly on the workout days, don't worry you'll have plenty of fuel if you eat enough protein on the workout days- as long as your caloric total is lower then the rest of the other days. what works out really well is on the low cal days- you eat high protein with moderate carbs and then on the recovery days you have a free for all (healthy foods i presume,or not - i usually eat a burger and fries guilt free :D)
Now you could do 3x small meals and high protein and mod carbs/fats or do the warrior diet..i like the warrior diet because i can eat until i get full and it's all good, i am done feeling satisfied.Try either honestly for shot to figure out what's best for you i'd say.But the 3x meals on low cal days, you'd definetly get in more protein to build muscles. For summer, i like to keep it really a no brainer when it comes to diet and excersize - and spend more time out and about or doing shyte anyways :D this keeps me on track because it's soo easy and i am used to it..basicly eat later in the evening M/F and then eat whenever on the weekends (which is fun because i gorge myself at bar-b-Qs)
just remember to eat enough roughage and fibers, drink enough water ..you'll thank me later.

P.S.
for anyone that's underweight, it's not always about how much you eat- but how well your body is absorbing the nutrients and calories. Also on this type of diet, it helps prime the appetite and actually trains you to want to eat more but it also conditions you to not be hungry til a certain time.Always listen to your instincts though, sometimes you're gonna want more protein, or carbs or veggies- it's your body telling you the exact type of fuel it needs to function optimaly. If you are training your appetite a certain way ,it'll surely respond by making it greater and greater...which is a good thing for someone whos underweight anyways.

I'm pretty well read on all the nutrition stuff. I'm just getting so many different meal "plans" tossed at me. This book states that athletes need high carbs and moderate protein/fat. Paleo diet ends up having decently low carbs by default, and this is saying I should mix up my intake.

I'm not sure how I should start off.

athletes that perform in athletic events like basketball and football no doubtingly would need alot more overall carbs and calories for maximum peformance and to continuisly perform.

it all depends on what you are trying to achieve, personaly i like eating this way because i feel free on this type of routine.I'd hate to eat all day long or feeling like i 'should' eat six meals a day. Before you even make a descision,i'd say try eating lightly for the next two days but get enough protein and carbs/fat and then eat alot for two days after to see how you feel and perform..and then go by what works best for you. That's what i did about three years ago, i was really into nutrition at one point and i learned about almost all the diets out there- i just used what works and applied it to my body type and how i respond.

Right now, I'm trying to put on about 15-20lbs. Trying to keep it as lean as possible, so I was planning on taking in a huge majority of my carbs from complex carbs. I'll be doing some running a few times a week, (1-2) to keep up my speed and improve agility as well.

Calorie cycling will definetly help you out, since you're really active and also trying to gain- i would say at least two of your days be protein low cal days and then switching it up from 2 days to 3 days every other week.Try it out tommorow even or better yet- for the next two days, it's not gonna kill you and you're not gonna loose 10lbs. overnight or anything.

Psh If I lost 10lbs over night, I'd kill somebody. Maybe eat them too. I hated being down at 140 back in the day.
