I ****ing hate Facebook. It was a good idea at the beginning, a way to keep up with people you don't get to see often because they live far away and etc. But now it's just this self-promotion attention whoring device with people creating these ridiculous facades for themselves. A cursory glance of someone's profile makes it seem like they have a massive social circle and tons of friends, then you realize they're just putting up dozens of pictures of themselves with people they barely know and they have the same 5 people posting on their wall over and over again even though they have 300+ "friends". It's like the Emperor's New Clothes.

I unfriended everyone who I hadn't talked to in person in more than a few months, and untagged myself from most of the pictures. Now I only have 20 friends and about 10 pictures  Probably makes me look like a total loser when I finally do add someone. I would delete it but I want to be able to see the pictures of me that people are putting on there.

I hate texting too. It enables people to send me messages that are insignificant enough as to not be worth a phone call. If they called me I would ask why they called just to tell me that. But since it's just a text, it's considered acceptable. It also enables people to drag their communications with each other on and on for a long period of time in a very impersonal way. And it makes social circles even more closed to outsiders than usual because it enables people to make plans instantly and stick together all the time instead of maybe talking to someone new for a change.

FB and texting are great for people who already have a social circle, but makes it even more difficult for outsiders to infiltrate the groups.

If talking to a girl face to face were equally as convenient as IM, texting, social media, etc., which would you opt for?

Your answer is what makes you a chump or not.

Your value is dictated before you've even started, when girls ask you for your Facebook. If you don't have it, you're seen as weird, mysterious, creepy - not in a challenge sense. Especially if you've cold approached some random girl, its much easier for her to decide whether she wants you inside her on her own terms, than yours. If you do have an FB account, you're quickly screened. It's a limbo-dance, and if you can't dance, you're booed off the stage.

Its just a quicker screening process to see if you're a pre-selected desired male. Your value and whether shes interested is not concluded after a date anymore. It's pretty much before that now. Short answer for OP, yes and no. Guys who've got their sh*t together can have some awesome profiles, doing cool stuff that beat the average commonplace dude. Average guys who haven't will simply be discarded one way or another and end up writing a flakestory for us on the board.
Just had a 20-year old I met off a dating site whom I've been texting and chatting on the phone with send me this:

"You have to add me on fb before i hang out with you lol"

Texted her back with: "I only add ppl I know so guess it's not happening then"

No response. Typical.

Basically, she's already looking for ways to dismiss you. You've already been screened out before the initial interview.

Now could this have happened even 5 years ago? Nah, I would've taken her out for drinks, regaled her with my wit and charm, and banged her.

You guys need to stop being so uptight with this Facebook thing.

Also, you can add people to your Facebook without giving them access to every piece of info on you.

Yeah right, with your attitude, we believe you.

I want you to spend 10 minutes on this experiment.

* Ask a guy how many girls he runs into everyday he'd find attractive. Say, out of 20.

* Ask a girl the same question, but reverse the sex.

Do the same with a few more guys & girls.

You'll figure out the answer to your question.
