You know, I was just having this converstaion with a couple of freinds of mine, Jack Daniels and Jimmy Beam, the other night. I said "Hey Jack, do you think there's anything wrong with drinking alone?" He said, "When do you really drink alone? Just the other night we had Johnnie Walker and his brothers Blackie and Red here." So I said "yeah, but is there anything wrong with it?" Then Jimmy says, "Well, Bud Weiser might not be the best fellah to ask. Maybe you oughta talk to your Ole Grandad." So I think about it and say "Nah, he's too busy shooting Wild Turkey with my uncle Hennesy."

That's when Jose Cuervo popped in for a bit to say hi.

sorry couldn't resist.

Lol, that is some pretty funny stuff, but then again I am a little drunk right now. Personally I am a social drinker, and I think that when you start drinking alone it can lead to some serious problems.

However, I really think it is about really knowing yourself. If you are able to ocasionally have a drink or two by yourself just to relax then that is ok, but if you are getting hammered that is a problem.

The best definition I have heard for having an alcohol problem is when you start drinking just to avoid boredom, you know you have a problem.

Well, then 80% of every college campus is filled with alcoholics.

Personally, I love to drink a few beers every once in awhile when I'm kicked back watching tv. Especially if I got some good stuff like some guiness or new castle. Its only bad when you can't control yourself and get hammered 24/7. I can drink a beer and be satisfied, I don't have to get drunk.

I used to drink a **** load in high school and since then I've gotten over that.

Ok. I just gone done talking to Dr. McGilicuddy. He straightened me out.

*sigh*

It's all fun and games until someone loses a liver.

Drinking alone is not "OK". It's not.

Both my parents are alcoholics. My Grandmother and Grandfather? Alcoholics. Out of my 9 aunts and uncles? Five are alcoholics.

Click on the period of my signature (for those that don't already know).

Right.

The first thing out of people's mouths when the feast their eyes on it is "Holy Sh!t!"

And, I can almost HEAR the second thought that chases that comment:
"Wow! This guy has one serious drinking problem!"

I NEVER drink alone.
Never.

Oh sure, I could, and I'd be good at it. It's in my genes. My mother's parents' names were Kennedy and Mittelstadt. It doesn't get more german-irish than that. Whoa buddy do I have a cast-iron liver. I can, and have, drank all day long. And, I'm not a puker. I put down 8 gin martinis in two hours and didn't gurp. In fact, I was wearing a tuxedo, followed a woman upstairs to her room, hurt every hole she had, then sat in her bathtub singing songs from "The Wizard of Oz" while she laid quivering on her bed.

Fear. Discretion. Respect. Maturity? Don't play with booze, be very afraid. Alcohol is THE MOST insideous, mind-altering drug on the market... and legal. There is a time and place for everything. The time and place for booze is not when you are by yourself. That is, if nothing else, sad.

Some song lyrics:
"I drink alone. Yeeeeaaah, with nobody else."

That song, to me, is sad. The way I hear it is:
"I drink alone. Yeeeeaaah, 'cuz noone can stand me."

Save yourself. Draw a line. Never drink alone.

Oh, for pete's sake Vulpine, there's a thing called grey areas. Some can handle it, and some have to take it further. Use logic.

As for my reply to the OP: I enjoy having a glass or two of red wine after work once in awhile. I've only really been drunk once since last July, so it's not really an issue for me.

I drink alone all the time.

On most days, it's just a drink or two, never more than three if it's during the week. Like if it's a Monday or Tuesday, I absolutely will not have that fourth drink. I always have a drink with dinner. I sometimes, but not always decide to have more.

On at least one weekend night though (usually Saturday night), I'll have four or five.

I very rarely get drunk. In fact, I can't remember the last time I did. But then again, I don't actually enjoy drunkeness, and I do need to maintain by ability to drive.

On the other hand, I really don't like the idea of going more than 24 hours without a drink.

As for going out, I don't like staying until closing time. During the week, it's easy. I have to wake up earlier the next day so I leave by like 10-10:30. On weekends I'll stay out much later.

Also, I often go out alone. It doesn't bother me, as I'm used to being the lone ranger. I always go out, regardless of whether or not anyone else is coming along. If others come along, great. If not, I'm not letting that stop me.

I don't think it's a bad thing. But then again, I'm able to say "This will be the last drink for today." If necessary, I'll get an ice water with a lime if I decide I can't drink anymore.

does anybody ever get more creative when they start to get a good buzz on. this may sound lame but i find most of the songs i write come from the creative buzz that booze gives me...
Hey, cool idea. I'm going to drink a bit before writing my paper tonight.

Oxide, I think my dull energy is what killed those conversations. I'm more of a mellow, laid back guy, and the girls I started talking to were really high-energy (bubbly) it seemed, which I didn't expect. I can have lots of energy sometimes too, but not always.

Abbot, I think as Oxide explained, you probably rarely get drunk because you drink so often. That's probably why I didn't get drunk the other night I went out (I had drank the night before). I don't enjoy the "drunk, cannot remember a thing" feeling much either. I enjoy getting buzzed though. Usually, I down shots fast, and wonder why I am not feeling anything, and by the time I start feeling a buzz, the whole thing hits me like a train (although sometimes it never hits me).
