Iran Letter: 165,000+ Sign Petition to Prosecute GOP Senators for Treason.

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/iran...tion-prosecute-gop-senators/story?id=29564985

A petition on whitehouse.gov calling for charges to be filed against the 47 senators who sent an open letter to the leaders of Iran, possibly in violation of the Logan Act, has collected more than 165,000 signatures in less than two days.

Because the petition exceeded 100,000 signatures within 30 days, the White House is required to respond.

The creator of this petition, known only by the initials C.H., alleges that the 47 senators “committed a treasonous offense when they decided to violate the Logan Act, a 1799 law which forbids unauthorized citizens from negotiating with foreign governments.”

The letter, which was published on Monday, warned Iranian leaders that any nuclear deal they sign with President Obama won’t last past his second term.

Why Some Think 47 GOP Senators Broke the Law With Iran Letter

Tom Cotton Denies GOP Letter Undermines Iran Nuclear Talks

Jerome Barron, a professor of Constitutional Law at George Washington University, told ABC News in an interview that he finds the senators’ letter “disrespectful,” but he does not believe the senators have committed treason.

“They would make the argument the Logan Act doesn’t apply because they are one of the three branches of government and although the they don’t have the major role of foreign relations, they do, after all, as the senate, confirm treaties,” Barron said. “It’s true this is an executive agreement, but they [the Senate] have some role I suppose. I don’t think they’re in violation of the Logan Act.”

When asked about the potential violation of the Logan Act, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest highlighted the authority of the Department of Justice.

“For a determination like that, I'd refer you to the Department of Justice. It ultimately would be their responsibility to make that kind of determination,” Earnest said today in the White House briefing room. “I know that there's been a lot of speculation about this, but I'm not aware of any conversations about the Logan Act in its relation to this specific matter that have taken place here at the White House.”

And while Earnest redirected the inquiry about the potential Logan Act violation for now, the White House will have to make an official response to the petition.

Other petitions that have met the White House’s response threshold include legalizing marijuana, publishing the White House beer recipe and even deporting Justin Bieber back to Canada.

File charges against the 47 U.S. Senators in violation of The Logan Act in attempting to undermine a nuclear agreement

On March 9th, 2015, forty-seven United States Senators committed a treasonous offense when they decided to violate the Logan Act, a 1799 law which forbids unauthorized citizens from negotiating with foreign governments. Violation of the Logan Act is a felony, punishable under federal law with imprisonment of up to three years.

At a time when the United States government is attempting to reach a potential nuclear agreement with the Iranian government, 47 Senators saw fit to instead issue a condescending letter to the Iranian government stating that any agreement brokered by our President would not be upheld once the president leaves office.

This is a clear violation of federal law. In attempting to undermine our own nation, these 47 senators have committed treason.

There may be treason in D.C., but not in that branch of government.

They would have needed to break a law to be prosecuted.

They didn't.

Millions upon millions of signatures wouldn't change that.

Your posts remind me of a poster behind my graduate advisor's desk. It read:

Eat sh*t!
Billions of flies can't be wrong.

You were okay with Pelosi going to visit Bashir Assad when Bush was President.

Now you get your panties in a bunch when some Senators write a letter.

Get over yourself.

It's D.C. And it is full of morons.

They are a PAID opposition, have been for 50 years. The National Review...PAID "Respectable" Conservative opposition to allow the liberals to do/implement ANYTHING they propose. They never treat liberals as if they are just Plain SILLY in what they say/propose. They actually give what they say Credence for even discussing most of it as if it was intellectually viable.

They go along with the game for a PAYCHECK.

It's true; this has been a problem with the Republicans for years, even back to 1964 when Barry Goldwater failed to capture the nomination. They've never been serious about cutting government. The closest we got was Reagan and government still grew under a Democratic congress. Then the 1st Bush came, and he was just more lukewarm Republicanism.

We need hard-core conservatism that is highly intellectual. What the Republicans did in 2008 was to swing the pendulum too far the other way and picked a Sarah Palin. I'm beginning to think the Republicans just like to lose (because honestly, Obama should have been an easy defeat both in '08 and in '12)

Obama needs to quit signing executive orders to undermine Congress, and Congress will quit writing letters to undermine Obama.

Ronald Reagan had over 380 executive orders (including an Iran one), and conservatives love to sing of the good ole Ronnie days. Obama hasnt even reached 200 yet, and the GOP is losing its sh!t. Thats what I find funny about their so called love of small government. Gimme a break.

PS - Obama still has almost 100 less executive orders than his predecessor.

This is a half truth, or lie, like the DOJ Ferguson report and most everything else claimed by the administration.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2014/12/16/obama-presidential-memoranda-executive-orders/20191805/

President Obama has issued a form of executive action known as the presidential memorandum more often than any other president in history — using it to take unilateral action even as he has signed fewer executive orders.

When these two forms of directives are taken together, Obama is on track to take more high-level executive actions than any president since Harry Truman battled the "Do Nothing Congress" almost seven decades ago, according to a USA TODAY review of presidential documents

Remember kids: Iran is such a danger to America that Ronald Reagan violated the law in order to sell them weapons.

With all due respects Sir, why don't you start a Ronald Reagan thread? The topic here and now is current events, not American history.

Respectfully,

Lefty

^Go drink your prune juice old man. Thats a better use of your time since youre unable to refute or argue any points I present. What about selling weapons to Iran was untrue?

I thought we were talking about Iran? The point of my post is to highlight the hypocrisy and false outrage from the right-wing with regard to Iran. Nevermind present-day Iran being a direct result of the USA meddling in a sovereign nations democracy and helping to overthrew their Prime Minister back in the 50s.

What followed was a western backed dictator for 26 years, and then the 1979 revolution that gave the world this Iranian theocracy that the USA and Israel bickers with. You dont think Iran remembers all this when dealing with America and negotiating with us? They dont freaking trust the USA and definitely dont trust Israel.

What a middle east we might have if Westerners didnt meddle.

Whats hilarious is that your description of my posts aptly applies to your own. No substance, no refutation of any present points. Simply impulsive, unthinking, and immature name calling combined with a retreat from debate (your tail between your legs basically)

Youre slipping gramps. But hey, we all know the mind sometimes loses its sharpness in the twilight years. Carry on.

You can't slip BabyGay. You type nothing to refute but myopic pap.

You only know what your libbie news sources tell you and you knee-jerk it back out like an infant with projectile vomiting. There's no thought behind it at all.

Your typing is one logical fallacy after another - mostly red herrings.

I bet you're something at the dorm room bull sessions.

Its pathetic that you fall back on useless hyperbole and childish name calling. It shows a clear inability to engage in a rational discussion.

So facts are now liberal huh? Whats liberal about the well known facts of the Iran-Contra affair? All reputable sources on this matter show for a fact that Reagan's government sold weapons to Iran in order to fund guerrillas in Nicaragua. Bringing that up is not a red herring.

Bringing that up highlights the hypocrisy of Republicans who undermine President Obama's dealings with Iran. And why mention Reagan? Because MANY Republicans look back on Reagan as if he was some saint with regard to the economy and foreign policy.

Total bullsh!t those notions are.

Now how about you directly address what Ive said. Stop regurgitating the same bs about "liberals" and "knee jerks". Thats a habit of yours (as well as others on this forum), once someone's made a strong point that you cannot handle.

The OP brought up a petition regarding how the GOP is undermining our President's foreign policy, and Ive presented other points that highlights the hypocrisy of the party with respect to how I hear them discuss their glorious St Ronnie, and the good ole days of "conservative" presidency.

Ill repeat myself, so this cannot be misunderstood. Its hypocritical of many in our government to condemn Obama's foreign policy, but at the same time look back longingly on Reagan's presidency. Also, the United States past dealings with Iran has direct influence on how that nation now views us and chooses to deal with us. (and this goes back to the 50s)

EDIT: 10 post limit

Your whole post about Reagan is one large red herring GayJay/FatalGay.

You jump into the Wayback Machine to dredge up Ronald Reagan.

Like I said earlier, you get your liberal wet nurse panties all bunched up over a letter. But you were just fine when Nancy Pelosi traveled to Syria to meet with Bashir Assad while the Bush White House was sanctioning Assad and Syria for human rights violations. This is when your precious democrats were calling Assad 'a reformer' despite clear evidence that he was murdering his countrymen by the thousands. Assad has now 'reformed' more than 200,000 of his citizens.

You are nothing but a lefty apologist shill and no better than your right-wing opposites.
Nice job putting words in my mouth. When did I, Jaylan, ever say Pelosi meeting with the Syrian president was a good idea? Please quote me.

Ill disagree with Democrats when it calls for it. But this is a thread about Iran, so its no red herring to bring up foreign policy as it relates to IRAN. Again, I repeat, I highlighted the GOP hypocrisy regarding Iran. I also highlighted how past dealings with IRAN affect our negotiations with them today.

But with regard to Syria, Assad is a tyrant who needs to be ousted...but that should NOT be the job of the USA or the West. Let Middle Eastern nations deal with their own bad guys.
