Interesting situation... was this a rude or a polite gesture?

On a date tonight with a HB8, dressed a bit provocative, we're sitting at the bar chatting and hitting it off. All of a sudden this guy walks up, I recognized him as he'd been sitting a few seats down from us, and he pushes this stuffed animal at me. I knew instantly it had something to do with my date and responded in a playful funny/sarcastic tone and it went something like this:

ME: Is this for me?!
HIM: Uhh... no I actually got it for the lady
ME: Oh.. because i'll take it
HIM: Well.. it was for the young lady but whatever you two want I guess
ME: Oh ok, I think it'd be perfect for my dog
HIM: *Shrugs his shoulders and walks away*

I didn't really feel threatened or disrespected because he was older (mid 40s?) and below me in looks, but nonetheless it seemed like he was encroaching on my territory. If he was just trying to be polite i'd feel bad for being kind of a d!ck, but I feel like most guys would have taken it personally. Never had this happen. Your thoughts??

I love how you guys always give numbers to your dates. It would be very interesting to see if she was actually an 8 or not. Looks like this guy was trying to horn in on your date. You have to love the stuffed animal bit. Maybe it was for his date that never showed up or a date that walked out on him. The question is why did he have a stuffed animal with him? He was trying to impress your date being cute with a stuffed toy. Someone should tell that guy it doesn't work doing that with women.
