Yay bickering.
I'm going to go ahead and throw my slightly educated opinion into the mix (boxed as an amateur for 2 years, recently been learning a myriad of things relating to MMA) and attempt not to start a worthless, ego driven, e-prick waving contest with anyone.
How to increase punching power:
A) Learn the proper technique. It's difficult to describe exactly how to throw certain punches, and it is probably even more difficult to simply read a message board, stand up and immediately have the correct form, so I won't get into that, but without all the mechanics of a punch in place, you will never get your maximum power out of it.
B) Increase the explosiveness of the muscles involved in the punching motion. For example, when throwing a cross, you essentially extend your arm, torque your torso, and push off of your back foot in one motion. If the muscles involved in this motion (mostly all of your legs, abs, shoulders, etc.) were to become more explosive (not necessarily stronger), your punching power would theoretically increase.
Aside from that, I couldn't suggest much.
P.S. - You never throw your whole body into a punch.
Mike Tyson:
To say that Mike Tyson has no game or strategy is absurd. Mike Tyson was trained by one of the best trainers in boxing history, Cus D'Amato. I assure you, he is a sound technical boxer, not just a hard puncher. Mike's head movement (at least, his head movement of 15 years ago) is unquestionably some of the best that I've ever seen from a heavyweight.
Much of Mike's problems arise from being a short heavyweight, with a short reach, and not responding well to close competition. Mike kills people who fight scared, and fights scared against boxers who don't.
Lennox Lewis:
Re: Tyson
Yes, he's old. If he was a bit younger, that punk Lewis would be on the floor. I doubt Lewis has ever fought a fight outside the ring.
A) Lewis is a year older than Tyson. Tough to use that argument when Lewis is, in reality, the older fighter.
B) Lewis is a punk and he's never fought a fight outside the ring? A punk? Man, there are reasons to kick somebody's ass on the street, but my definition of a punk is not someone who's never fought someone outside the ring. My definition of a punk is someone who needlessly goes looking for fights with people who don't want to fight him.
Lewis is a talented, intelligent man. Tyson pissed away his fortune on albino tigers and other needless ****, Lewis invested his money and will be sitting pretty for the rest of his life. He will have a better career than 99.9% of the people reading this board.
Re: Lewis
He has some good strategy but his punches are lame.
C) It doesn't take a whole helluva lot of strategic expertise to realize that you have 10 inches of reach on some schmuck, and playing keepaway while peppering him with jabs is a viable gameplan.
D) You think Lennox Lewis' punches are lame? Why don't you ask Hasim Rahman if Lennox's punches are lame? I bet he'd tell you they're serious as a heart attack.
