I have a list of guys who are around 5'6 - 5'7. I don't know which one girls would like the most. Tell me what you guys think?

Manny Pacquiao. He's definitely my height but I have a feeling he's still too skinny?

Code:
David Diaz. Same height and weight as Manny Pacquiao yet somehow he's a little bit thicker.

Bruce Lee. Yup, we all know him. I'm not sure if he's really 5'7 though. He looks a little bit taller than that maybe 5'8. I'm not sure.

That's all I can think of right now. Which one do you guys think will make a girl say WOW? Or are they all still too skinny to be consider a hottie in terms of their body?

All those men have very low body fat % and they simply wouldn't look that good with shirts on. They just look skinny. BTW Bruce Lee was 5'7 and ~130 lbs. His body fat is reported to be between 3 and 7%.

I'm also 5'6. I'm currently 144 18% BF and I'm aiming to get to ~155 with around 10-13% BF.

Getting back on topic, at 5'6 we are small men. In order to get the wow factor we must add muscle while keeping fat low.

The whole goal is to make ourselves look strong and powerful. Being skinny or fat doesn't cut it. It's all about muscle.

You have to ask your self what is more important. Looking good with your shirt on or shirt off?

Hmmmm I see. Do you know anyone standing 5'6 that's got the wow factor you're talking about or any pictures so I know what to aim for? Damn, I thought either Manny or Bruce Lee would do the job. I'm 138 pounds right now and I'm not too happy with my body yet.

There's one big factor in me though that I don't like and that would be me loving boxing. I just feel like I can't go up to 155 and stay that way if I want to fight. Hopefully I don't lose speed being that big. I hear fighters who lift weights are slower and have less stamina.

Sorry I don't know of anybody famous that's around 5'6 that has good muscle mass.

Wanting to be good boxing and attracting women based on your looks unfortuantely don't seem to go hand in hand.

I don't know a lot about boxing but it seems you want to be as light and have as little fat on you as possible. Looking at Manny Pacquiao's wiki he seemed to hover around 130 lbs.

I wish I knew more about boxing to give you some advice. From what I've seen, guys our height are on the lighter side. I just don't think being that small is attractive to women.

5'6 here. I'm expecting to end up around 170-180 lbs by the end.
Wow 170-180 lbs on a 5'6 frame? Is that even possible? I'm assuming you mean muscle.

I simply can't imagine putting on 40 more pounds.

It's so hard to find pictures of guys that are our height that also good muscle mass.

Definitely. Most professional bodybuilders are no taller than 5'10 -- A lot ranging in the 5'5 - 5'8 range. Those guys can weigh upwards of 250 pounds in the off-season.

I had some guys on my high school football team that were ginormous at shorter heights. Guys you definitely didn't want to mess with. The biggest one was 5'8 (a little taller than you) and weighed 305 lbs with a surprisingly moderate amount of fat. I mean sure, he was still chubby, but the guy wasn't a fat-ass by any stretch of the imagination.

Hell, I'm 5'9 in shoes and I weigh somewhere around 210 or 215. It's definitely possible, you just have to put in the work with the weights. Takes some people longer than others, and not everyone can be a 300lb monster (I wouldn't want to be anyway), but anybody can become muscular.

By the way, for a perfect short guy physique, check out Mark Wahlberg when he was still Marky Mark

Damn, up to 250 for bodybuilders? The 5'8 305 guy probably has a lot of fat but it's mixed in with muscle. That's still huge.

I definitely don't want to be that big. I'd like to eventually have big muscles and a 6-pack.

Thanks for mentioning Marky Mark. I found a thread on Bodybuilding.com where they analyze a picture of him. Here is the thread

His height seems to be around 5'7-5'8.

Here's the pic. Yeah it does look kind of gay. But it does seem like a body type to work for.

I used to think my body was pretty good. Well compare to Bruce Lee maybe. I like his body. Not in a gay way.

There are several methods.

1. Do hydrostatic weighing which is the most accurate
2. Having somebody (usually a fitness professional) measure you using calipers.
3. There are handheld devices that can give you a measurement
4. An electronic scale that also gives you your BF %

I have somebody measure me (#2) at least once every 2 weeks and I also have an electronic scale. Surprisingly enough the scale gives me the same BF reading that the calipers do 99% of the time.

The scale was around $50 I don't quite remember because I've had it for years.

I actually don't know how much he weighs in that picture. People were guessing between 160 and 180.

I just know that if I had a body like that I'd be getting some serious female attention.

It’s good that you brought up Bruce Lee. Both Marky and Bruce are about 5’7. Marky is probably about 35 lbs heavier than Bruce. I think he’s body looks better than Bruce’s. But here is the difference. Bruce has a fighter’s body and Marky was going for size. We all know that Bruce could take on Marky Mark in his sleep.

The whole point of working out is to get a body that you are proud of. You want to build up your own self-confidence. Getting female attention is merely a bonus. For me I want to look bigger.

I'm 5'5" Vagrant...I'm going to tell you one really obscene truth you probably don't want to hear.

At our height, there are many chicks who by nature of their ingrown and steadfast preferences, would never be drawn to us. It's simple as that. Sure guys on this site will say that BS, any woman can be gamed, yada yada. But is any chick really worth all that work? I don't think so. The pinnacle of my womanizing career is not proving I can f**k a chick who hates short guys LOL. Big deal. I'm going after girls who are open to me and who don't need to be freaking hypnotized to be with a short guy!

That being said...a few years ago I embarked on a great program to put on mass. I agree with you guys...at our height, you can't be fat or skinny, you must be buff as hell to gain any sense of respect. So I started lifting weights and eating everything in sight. Lo and behold, I found myself weighing over 160 and I was just a big fatass. I was a fatass with some good muscle growth hidden underneath all that blubber.

If you're going to try to gain weight, you gotta do it slowly and be patient. Lift well and lift heavy, and eat well and eat heavy. But eat clean. Don't take that as license to eat all the crap you can get your hands on. Blubber is not good. Lean mass is. I weigh 150 ish right now and I'd love to weigh more, but whatever. I think my body most closely resembles David Diaz' with one problem...I have about 6-7% more body fat than him hahah. I find great satisfaction in strength gains. I'm squatting and deadlifting about 2.3x my body weight which is fine with me. I'm proud of that. My goals are 400 lbs on those lifts, and if I can hit that, I don't care how skinny I look.

I agree with all you guys. We short guys need more mass. I am 5 7'-8' and am currently a little above 150 lbs.

the person before me gave GREAT advice for determining your bf%. Follow what he says. And yes it will take a long time for us to gain mass. You are looking at a good 2-3 years(and more for ectomorphs). I myself have been training for about 3 years and gained about 45 pounds.

I think if you are 5 8' a good weigh to reach at LEAST 160 lbs 8-10% bf to look "big". I got a good 10 more pounds to put on. :/

my roommate is 5 6'-5 7'. He looks pretty damn good in terms of weight. Everyone compliments him and he gets hella girls. He is about 155 lbs at 8%. Im thinking since I am a little taller than him, I would need to put +5-10 more additional pounds.

I put this all in a negative tone. my bad. You will LOVE working out. After you do it for a while. I look forward to it every single day(hitting the gym). I can't explain how many good things came from me getting bigger.

Both insidious and ssj4halo bring up great points.

A couple of years ago I was 159 lbs. But I was at 24% BF. I simply had a big stomach. Using my excel spreadsheet, my lean body mass LBM was 120 lbs. Now I'm 144 @ 18% and my LBM is 118. I basically dumped 13 lbs of fat. If I was to hit 160 lbs @ 10% BF, LBM would be 144. So the weight would be the same as before but with 24 lbs more of muscle. That would be a rocking body.

Very important as ssj4halo said. You want to gain weight slowly. If you work extremely hard and eat perfectly you may be able to gain one pound of muscle a week. A more realistic goal is to reach for gaining half a pound a week. Any more than and you will probably be adding fat.

So if I gain half a pound of muscle a week or 2 lbs a month, which is actually harder than it sounds. I can reach 150 in 12 weeks. I can be 160 in 32 weeks or 8 months. That's putting me at December. From then on I'll probably focus on cutting.

For me gaining weight is tricky. Even though I was working out and eating more I didn't gain any weight at all in March. For April I'm going to try eating like a pig.

Try to get your arms about 14' inches UNFLEXED(if you are 5 8') not after a workout but like at a random point of the day. Thats equilivent(in terms of body shape) to the typical 15 inch arms of taller people(5 9'-6 feet). This of course is a measurement when your bf is around 8-10%.

Mine are almost 13.5. After I hit 14 inches im just going to cut and stay at that weight(whatever it might be).

What san jose said is right, it really doesn't matter. Only reason why I am telling you all this is because you were wondering what the particular dimentions of a built short guy is(anymore than that it would look a bit ugly.)

wait wait wait..so in order to get bigger I'm going to lift heavier and eat more? Did I understand that right? Does it really matter the weight of what you're lifting?

Yes it does. More weight = larger muscles. Muscles are a response to physical stress. Like scar tissue, and hormones and etc. All responses to stress.

Eat more, lift more. Start heavy, 3-4 reps. When you get your strength up nice, then you can add reps.
