WTF is going on? This straight dude (maybe bi/gay?) complimented me. Why don't women do that to me?

I have been told by two gay men how handsome I am and they tried flirting with me. I was a bit surprised actually, because although I'm not very tall, I am pretty muscular and they're both very girly. I don't know, man, I wouldn't let it bother me. I've received compliments from gay men and from women, chances are if they find you attractive, so do women. Make it obvious you're not interested though, otherwise girls might think you're gay.

Also, something a lot of people on this board will laugh at, but don't be mean about it. Turn him down, of course, but you have to consider that it is not easy for a gay man to flirt with other men, it must have taken him a lot of guts to walk up to you and do that.

Just take it as a compliment. I've been complimented by straight guys, which is fine. I don't even mind a compliment from a gay guy as long he's not propositioning me.

I've had gay guys proposition me rather directly and aggressively. That I found offensive.

Back to your question about why women don't do that. IME, women only compliment the really hot guys. You are probably a handsome dude, but not drop dead hot. I'm the same way. I'm easy on the eyes, but no model. As a result, I don't remember the last time a female complimented my looks. I don't expect it anymore.

Even the word "cute" has different meanings. When we call a female cute, we mean pretty, but not hot, maybe 7ish. When a girl refers to a guy as "cute", she does NOT mean handsome 7ish. She means "hot" or 8+. Women's standards for looks are higher.

It doesn't matter how good-looking you are, how romantic you are, how funny you are... or anything else. If she doesn't have something INVESTED in you and the relationship, preferably quite a LOT invested, she'll dump you, without even the slightest hesitation, as soon as someone a little more "interesting" comes along.

only the upper levels of looks get compliments and come-ons from fags, when we see girls go by which ones do we get excited over? dogs? hell no, gay guys are just like women, they like hot dudes, it is the highest of compliments in my book, I politely turn them down and thank them

I had a flamer come up to me once and say "you are so hot, you wouldn't happen to be gay would you?" I said "no" he said back "please tell me you are bi at least?" I laughed and said "no, sorry"

trust me, this is a good thing, unless you are walking around like a queerbait which I doubt is the case, take it as a compliment, not like some insecure redneck

Funny you mentioned that because a girl commented my pic a few days ago saying I was cute. I got her number, we talked and she said we're looking for two different things (I guess she's not interested anymore...Oh well).

I guess when someone's as sexy as you, it just comes with the territory.

Think some of the guys here already nailed it. Really good looking dudes may get compliments on their looks (like models etc.) but good looking dudes get compliments from gay guys and LOOKS from women (if your paying attention you'll notice). That's about what happens to me too. Your still in there with girls, it's just not most of their style to throw compliments around. It makes them lose power in the interaction and sexual value IS their power, so they will try to hold it for the most part. Guys laughing and sh*t probably just aren't very good looking so it doesn't happen to them.

I work at the airport and see gay stewards on a daily basis. They flirt with me, ask other people about me, generally very friendly, checking me out, smiling, asking me if i am single. But I never had a gay guy actually come on to me directly, and the reason for that is that there is nothing about me that would suggest homosexuality. Gay guys are like that because they find you at least cute or attractive, and come on to you if they think that there is a chance that you may like guys. The analogy here is the same as with fatties who like to hit on nice guys. P.S. I live in one of the "gayest" cities in the west.

I always take it as a compliment when a gay guy hits on me. It actually happened earlier today. I was meeting up for a professional group thing and a guy I had struck up conversation with followed me into the bathroom before our first meeting. He finished up and washed his hands before I was done peeing, and then he paused before leaving and asked me about something we had already discussed - it was a stupid question and was EXACTLY the stupid question I'd ask if I was trying to strike up conversation again with some cute girl at some function after talking once or twice before.

Then his body language totally revealed what wasn't immediately apparent to me earlier; he swung a hip out and tilted his head and let his wrists go limp while we talked as I finished up and washed my hands.

His body language was very directed to me (shoulders, hips facing me directly) and he raised his voice a little. It was flattering, except that I'm not gay. I just acted polite and when we reached the group waiting for the meeting to open up, I kept my body opened up to the rest of the people around us while we talked and made friendly eye contact but didn't hold it for any period of time.

He was a nice guy too.. I'm sure he'll make someone very happy some day haha.

To respond to the OPs post and one of the later posts saying that it's like fat chicks... I'd say that gay guys tend to be pretty vain. While they may be shameless in terms of hitting on people out of their league or who might not be gay, they absolutely have vain standards just like men and women. That's not to say all gay guys are vain, but if a good looking gay guy hits on you, it's a lot like a good looking girl hitting on you - both probably eye fukced you from afar before even approaching, and both are validating your appearance by their actions.
