It's been a week since I put out my last cigarette, and I feel great! Of course, those other smokers will want to know how the hell I did it.

A few months ago, another ex-smoker on this board gave recommendation to the book "Allen Carr's Easyway to Stop Smoking". After hearing the success on here, and a friend telling me that they knew two people who quit smoking with this book, I was convinced that this was something powerful. So I bought it.

It was somewhat easier than all my other previous attempts in that I didn't want another cigarette. The say after I put out my last cigarette, I went through some pretty nasty withdrawl. My moods would swing like crazy! One moment I'd be happy as hell, then next moment I was the most miserable person you ever met. My feelings were amplified 20 times they normally were. Little things would piss me off.

Anyway, I'm rambling. The next day the mood swings were gone, and each day gets much better!

Thanks to the guys who originally recommended this book! I'm saving lotsa money now. For anyone who want to quit smoking, I recommend the book. It costs the same price as two packs of cigarettes. It'll pay itself off quickly :)

I wonder how people get addicted to cigarettes... I have had one or 2 but Ive never felt like I needed one. I even smoke cigars on ocasion but I never feel like I need one. I go weeks between them... maybe I just have good genes. Or maybe because I dont inhale.

1 turns into 2, 2 turns into 4;
before you know it you're buying packs just cause you're bored, and then it becomes something as essential as water.

it's not that tough to get addicted. don't!

I'm happy for you.

I quit smoking last summer, and while I was in army!!
Damn I had problem for a month to keep my nerves down since there were no cure (cigarettes used to be) to keep me cool.

I'm really happy about being smoke-free.
Once you get rid of the urge to smoke you'll find how great it is to be without it.

Strenght to you all who have stopped or are trying to stop smoking!
Props for fighting against it.

**** good genes!!!

Man my smoking started as smoking occasionately cigars.
I wasn't hooked on them you know.

Then I went to army (mandatory here) and most of my buddies there smoked.
You get offered for a smoke or two and once you go thru hard time you'll smoke some more and even buy some for yourself and before you realise you are a smoker!
Believe me I felt like I wasn't hooked, but you cheat on yourself there and you get hooked for good easily.

It happened to me and there's no reason it wouldn't happen to you. Your life may be easy on you at this point but you'll get some hard time too even if you don't believe me. It's easy to grab a cigarette then.

I hope that you think about this and quit it before you start.
It's a huge temtation sometimes since you feel like you aren't hooked to smoke since you feel it doesn't affect you, why should you quit? you think...

It's your decision and I'm not here to lecture you, just gave you my story.
Just to let you know, everyone will get hooked if they smoke enough. And it's pain in the ass to quit.

It doesn't matter how good-looking you are, how romantic you are, how funny you are... or anything else. If she doesn't have something INVESTED in you and the relationship, preferably quite a LOT invested, she'll dump you, without even the slightest hesitation, as soon as someone a little more "interesting" comes along.

I see what your saying. Im just saying that my last cigar was 1 week ago and 3 weeks befor that. And I mentioned good genes because my mother has the ability to smoke 5-6 and go months without them or completly without.

I smoke once a week, when I go out

Sometimes (because i skip a weekend), i happens that I don't smoke for 2-3weeks.

I didn't smoke in january this year for example.

I first smoke when I was 15, but I never smoke a lot. at 18 I stopped smoking (just like that) untill 22y.

I went out that night & had a drag from a friend's sigaret and a few weeks later I had my own sigarets...

Then I started to smoke a lot during the weekends, on my night out, usually it would be almost 1 pack of sigaret a night, most of the time at the morning I didn't need a sigaret anymore.

In the week I didn't smoke.

I wake up that morning ~6months ago after a night out. I lungs were peeping, I was coughing (ASTHMA) & my nose was full of yellow ****. Mouth infections were also common (And I clean my teeth 2/day + FLOSS).

I think this started something earlier in fact, but I didn't pay attention to it untill it became much more severe.

Now you have to know that in my family only my brother has asthma. He smokes pot since 5years.

He has an inhaler. He has common mouth infections.

I live a healthy life. I eat clean (organic) food 90% of the time. I work out 6/week. I got a healthy body. I get enough of sleep. I drink 8liters water a day. I don't drink alcohol, i never used drugs. I'm in a great physical shape.

But that damn sigaret.

It is not the sigaret, it the habit.
The habit of going out, having a drink with friends, sharing a sigaret.

When I go to work & I'm waiting for the train, I move when somebody with a sigaret is near me. It's disgusting.

My body says to me: "stop smoking".
My mind says: "mmm a sigaret"

My brother needs an inhaler. It happened to me 2 months ago, i went out & couldn't sleep, my lungs were peeping. I couldn't find an inhaler.

This is creepy, it's like you cannot breathe.

I just got the book, gonna read it.

Here's two other threads about the book:

I'm still getting slight desires to have a cigarette. Apparently, this will go on for about three weeks, but it's not a huge withdrawl. It's just a few seconds of my brain saying "I want a cigarette". I just keep telling it I don't smoke anymore, nor do I need to smoke.

Life is good! After 10 days of not smoking, I saved $55.75

Reason 1001 why smoking is bad.
btw Do you think not inhaling helps to keep the cravings away and the bad stuff out of your system(I know some gets in but does it lower it)?

I gave up smoking a year ago. I was more of a party smoker from college, although in stressful times I smoked regularly. When I quit, I took on the challenge hardcore, to make sure there would be no chance of going back. Started doing windsprints and running. Man the first week was rough.

The top 5 cigarettes that made it difficult to stop:

1) smoking while drinking alcohol
2) the "after a greasy meal" smoke
3) the after sex cigarette
4) smoking while driving, esp long distances
5) the "after smoke" smoke - cigarette after smoking pot

Smoking is retarded. Glad I never was a heavy regular smoker, glad I cut it out completely. Stopping is a lot easier than people make it sound though. Don't buy them, don't bum them, exhibit a little willpower. The psychological dependency is much stronger than the chemical dependency.

Good look to anyone who's trying to quit.
