hmm, can't edit anymore.

6/18/03 2:30pm

Hit the mall briefly to knock off some more "hi"s. You know, this is REALLY hard...but NOT for any reason that I thought! People, as I said before, DO NOT want to make eye contact!! It's kind of empowering, actually...but frustrating when you have this kind of goal in mind! Anyway, I can't blame them. I'm the looking away/watching the floor guy most of the time, too. One thing I noticed was that the people most likely to make eye contact were the "alpha male" types. Those types also looked confused that I was looking at them. *whew* I hope I can finish this this week!

EDIT: One more detail. In my travels, there was ONE, yes, count her, ONE girl that I would have considered. But barely. Anyway, that was the "best" eye contact of the bunch, as far as duration and reciprocation.

8 Hi's today.

Approached one chick and:

Me: Hey can I ask you a quick question?
Her: I'm late for my class but yeah?
Me: What's your name?
Her: C
Me: C, I'm doing a simple exercise to improve my skills at approaching women. Thanks for participating.

That "Wtf is going on?" look on their face is priceless;)

Tyler,
If you can't get eye contact, just say "Hi" without making eye contact. Who cares if they make eye contact with you or they don't? It's about improving yourself. It's not about anyone else.

And actually, when I practiced this boot camp a couple of months ago, it was hard for me too... I remember getting about 30 eye contacts during 8 days.. But it gets easier as you do it. So don't let ANYTHING discourage you.

cestmoi,

No I didn't experiment with what you said but I'll try as soon as possible.

Peace.

Stick at it Tyler.
Weekend coming up so we should all be able to get stuck into our homework and get those numbers up!

I think Indra really nailed it here

It's about improving yourself. It's not about anyone else.
Good luck and good hunting all.

sad, started the post and had the least amount of progress (cept for Lost, looks like he chickened out again:( )
Anyway today I went to the beach and chickened out and went to a friends house. On the way home from the friends house I said "Now is the time" so I went to the beach and "Hi'ed"a couple people but the beach was near empty so I couldn't get a lot of them. (I got about 2 replies out of the 5 Hi's I initated) At least I got the first hard ones out of the way. The poeple who I asked were off the scale, I don't mean fine either. One was a granny missing teeth, but it's better than nothing right Lost;)

14 hi's today. I did the "I'm doing an exercise" thing again. She was kinda cool this time.

Anyways, it's about time to hit the sack now. I'll write more later.

Peace.

Ok, we're into the second week now. How's everybody been doing?

I didn't talk to anyone yesterday but I talked to one guy at the gym. Starting the convo was very easy, as I dropped the bar and caused a small uproar at the gym:)

Hi all. Status update. I have not been doing well. I have not made the time to complete week 1. However, I have started on week 2 anyway. I had a quite nice conversation with a cute girl tonight. I am fairly comfortable with the weeks 1 and 2 stuff...it's week 3 that going to really be a test.

Tyler: I feel for you about the whole lack of acceptable talent where you've gone DJing.

I began an unprepared attempt at boot camp on Wednesday but it backfired because I was tired, slightly unshaved, hungry and rushing to be somewhere a bit later on.

Not that these are excuses by the way, I'm very angry at myself.

I got a few eye contacts but nothing really solid, why is everybody so timid in public??

The main thing that annoyed me though was whenever I saw a girl that looked reasonable, she was either with her boyfriend, mum or dad! On one other occassion a group of three walked past and I got good eye contact but I'm too inexperienced at this stage to hold the attention of three.

There were tarts and mothers with prams everywhere, and soon the bratty schoolkids began to infiltrate the place. Ironically the only sighting of an approachable dateable girl was my friend's girlfriend, whom I spoke with briefly!

So after a while I decided to do two last laps of the place - NOTHING. On the last lap I thought about just saying hi to anybody but not even the old grannies gave me eye contact!

I'm never going to that place on a weekday lunchtime again.

Tomorrow I'm determined to make it happen elsewhere, I'm going to get some cologne samples and ask people to tell me what's best. Is this a good plan? I'm sure I got this idea from someone here though so thanks goes to them.

awww crap I'm falling behind...:(
Anyways I doubled my Hi count (don't get too excited, that means my total is four, lol) Pretty bad on my behalf but I am proud of myself for approaching this HBtwentysomething, who my friends bet I wouldn't talk to. It was like a 30 second conversation but she was like a 8.5 or something so I was very proud of myself :) (and I made five dollars!)
I"m gonna try and gte some more Hi's and catch you guys up. Schools over now, but I live in a small town so there is no big place where everyone goes and you can just say Hi as they go by, but no more excuses, I'll hit the beaches cuz they're packed.

Happier today!

Went to a different shopping centre, which was also unfortunately quite devoid of good looking girls. Once again there were a lot of couples and groups of friends. I also had terrible luck (like looking one way and then turning back around to see the good ones just going up the escalators or whatever)

Eventually I saw a free raffle for a sweet car, and as i filled out the form I just happened to notice a nice 7-8 was watching over the stall.

So I moved in and 5-7mins later I had the digits and a chance to win a brand spanking new CAR!

She seemed happy to talk to me and I whipped out the cologne samples which worked pretty well. I didn't lay on the C+F nearly as much as I would have liked but I must have done something right! The poor girl was working there full-time for a 7 day week so it must have been great to be charmed by a suave guy like myself. Yay for me!

After that all the good-looking girls just started coming out of the woodwork and the place was working for me. I got a couple more to test my colognes but no more numbers (no rejections either though). I'm happy with one number, there's always tomorrow! And the next day, and the next day...

Hi fellas,

I have talked to one stranger this week. I'll have to go to Canada to camp for a week, so I'm not gonna be able to continue this week and the next week. Then I'll start off with Week 2 of the DJ boot camp. See you guys soon!

Hi guys

I didn't reply to this thread for some time. Let me just tell you briefly what happened since the time I posted.

I talked to this one chick at a bar on Wednesday and I talked to five people in this drum circle. Social activities appear to be great places for talking to people.

I also talked to a few more people but the convos didn't last 2 minutes.

I'll try to get the remaining two convos tomorrow.

Peace

i have no problem getting eye contact. but the problem is that i can't smile! when i lock eyes with a girl, it's almost impossible for me to squeeze out a smile! it's almost as if i'm scared to do it. and if i manage a smile, it ends up being small and looks so obviously fake. i practice in the mirror and i give GREAT genuine smiles to other people i see all the time! but when i get eye contact with a girl, i just can't do it!

any tips? how'd you guys get over this problem

just think about something finny about the girl like "I bet she will look weird when I'm hitting that" or "I bet she's a moaner"
When you go into your own little world you can amuse yourself with anything, and you won't let other's opinions bring you down...
