Ok. I have this bad situation that occured about a week ago. I went to my friend's house and his brother was there too. I aked him if I could ride his bike he said ya. I owned a motorcycle before amd I am an experienced rider. I ride the motorcycle and get pulled over by the cops. Now I asked him what the problem was and he said he pulled me over because of there is no liscence plate, only a plate holding a dealer plate. The bike is older so he said some people put the dealer plates on their bikes to hide a stolen or obviously the rider is late paying the registration. I look for the registration and there was none. I told him this is my friends bike and he let me borrow it cuz I wanted to test drive it before I bought it. He checked the VIN Number and ran it over. The cop came back from his car and said that this bike has not been registered in 3 years! I sais I didn't know that is was iregistered. I told him I am in the Army and he said he won't write me a ticket but he has to tow the bike. I am like can't you make an exception and let me pick the bike up with my truck and he said no.

Bike gets towed and now my friends brother does not have transportation seeing how the motorcycle was all he had. I felt bad, but I did not know it was not registered. Guy said dont worry about it we will wait till monday to see how much its gonna cost.

Then a few days later he calls me and tells me that its gonna be 350 to pay for the registration and another 350 for the tow and another 100 for the release letter from the cops. Then he proceeds to tell me that all together its gonna be a thousand dollars. BUT WAIT!I am not a math Wiz but I know that 350+350+100= 800$$$

So how does he come up with that total? Not to mention the guy got fired from his job and is unemployed. He now asks me, how do see yourself helping me out with this? I tell him I can't help him right now because I am broke and a student that is not working besides what the Army[Reserves] gives me a month. Which is not much.

He keeps saying that I should help cuz its my fault and I tell him its not my fault that you didnt register it. Ya I was riding it but why should I be punished for something you didnt take care of for your bike and you didnt tell me that it wasn't registered before I rode it?

My question is, am I at fault and should I pay for half or am I not guilty of his bike being towed?

You two should split it. You still got yourself pulled over, but it was at least partially because of something he did. $400 each.

If I let a friend borrow my car and he managed to get pulled over, my friend is responsible. Here, you're responsible for getting pulled over, but it was something your friend should have handled long before.

If I let a friend borrow my car, and I know I don't have plates and registration, should I have let him borrow it in the first place? Should he have asked if everything was okay before he took off in it? Splitting it would be generous at best. Paying the whole thing, folly. Paying nothing....you could justify that...can you live with it?

You should pay for the tow, because it's your fault it got towed. He should pay for the registration because he was a dumbf*ck and didn't get it registered. Then you two should split the release letter because you're both partially responsible for what happened. I say $400 each.
