I never really took notice of what I was doing to myself until i stumbled across this page: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dermatillomania

When I read it, I had a shocking realization that I may indeed have this disorder. It started when I was probably 9 or so. A blister on my thumb soon became an obssession for me to pick it. Over the years I am basically picking the skin off my whole right thumb. However I've stopped picking my thumb and it has healed since then.

But now, I'm moved on to picking the skin off adjacent to my finger nails. Whenever I get an episode of this skin picking frenzy, I always feel a deep 'itch' between the skin and the side of the nail and start picking. It usually never stops until I feel that the surface is 'smooth enough' or there is no skin connecting to my nail. This happens on both my hands, every finger.

Anyone has any idea or experiences on this matter. I feel that desperately I need help to overcome this habit of mine.

yeah definitely turn to a site about picking up women for advice on an obscure medical condition.

See a Doctor and do more research on the condition - the internet must have better places than here to learn about this.

yeah I'd like to be able to solve your problems with a cute paragraph about 'Confidence' and 'Being Alpha' but that won't work.

I'm with Kenny on this one, definitely see a Doctor, totally justified in seeing a doctor about this.

In fact have the 'Confidence' to book your appointment TODAY.

Hey I am a doctor , well a resident ^^

it definitely sounds like you have this disorder, usually the most effective treatment for these kind of disorders is cognitive behavior therapy possibly in combination with medication - as there's obsessive compulsive/anxiety opponent.

a psychiatrist will get you the proper help you need, if you cannot directly schedule one you may need to go through your primary care doctor first.

I don't understand what "picking skin" is. You just pinch yourself over and over?

Let me ask u this: do u have insomnia\bad sleep, frequent urination, buzzing ears, attention deficit disorder, low confidence, etc... Name some other things bro! Would like to try to help u out on this. Good luck in the meanwhile.
