so you think you will be a millionaire with a hot wife let's see .. in 10 years?

i doubt that very seriously
Not once did he say that, so dont attack him. Im assuming you dont know what you want to do? Dont know what you would go to school for? No one is here to convince you to go to school or follow their path. Theyre just telling you why they do what they do. Some people prize having a level of intelligence, others dont and are concerned about what happens now. Go work in a casino and make the big money. But like someone said before, unless you have a damn good plan and some creative ingenious, school is probably the safest route.

maybe if you live in a big industrial cities where you really NEED a degree. i was giving you an example about where i live, where 70% of people here have casino/hotel jobs. you can drop out of hs and get a job at major strip hotel, and still make $70.000 a year parking cars. i mean come on ... casino workers with no education makes more than a teacher who has a masters degree.

if i could make high 5's to low six figure income (for the rest of my life) with any kind of degree, i will go back to school tomorrow.

I smell another vegas person. You can make a ton of money being a valet attendant or bartender or drinks server or black jack dealer etc etc however when things go down hill for the casino, guess who the first people who get axed are? Also during slow season, aka now, you can be on call for months at a time making no money because you don't have senority. Sure you can find another seasonal job to work for those three months but it can be some time riding out that boat until you come into your own. Also note what i said about not being able to be promoted past managment possitions without a degree while working in a hotel casino. The really really big money in the casino also the safest positions are at the top. By not getting a degree you pretty much elminate yourself from that opportunity.

you're kidding me right? how long have u been in vegas? so you think those casino managers are fire proof? AHAHAHAHA. i know so called "managers" lost their jobs everytime the hotel changed upper management. they bounce from hotel to hotel, always on their toe. please tell me you are kidding. and no, you don't have to have a hotel management degree from that horrible 3rd rate crappy school called UNLV. . if you stay at one hotel long enough, and you kiss right person's ass you'll eventually move up. you should know that if you lived here long enough. this town is all about WHO YOU KNOW, not about what you know. i PERSONALLY know people who went and got hotel management degree from UNLV ended up being a dealer and moved to major strip hotel. why? because the casino dealers make upto $100k a year. sure you look good on those suits and you are the shift boss working 13 hours a day, on call all night and a crappy $50.000 a year salary with no union to back you up. if that is your dream, i wish you luck.

College/University has nothing about what you actually learn...

It's about making connections socially and networking for when you get out. I doubt you're going to meet a world renowned Poly Sci. teacher with 11 years in Washington at your local casino or a Fullbright Scholar at your local car-tune up shop... understand ??

I currently have a few contacts in the city and when I graduate I've got some doors of some important people to knock on. Also for the jobs I want, a 4-year degree is REQUIRED... dosen't matter what you have on your resume, you can't even step through the door without that paper...

Go to school.. and if you left early... go back... IMO

I wasn't talking about the "managers" obviously since you DON'T need a degree to get one of those positions, then they're ripe for the chopping block as well. My first manager at the property had no degree and it showed. No class routamentary ideas, and no motivation. She had a pretty low salaray (I think 50K a year is actually an overestimate) but like I said it's the NEXT level that has the most job security and makes the most money ie DIRETORS and higher. Of course it's all about who you know here but if you know the right people and have the right credentials you'll move up MUCH faster then being a pathetic kiss a$$ bringing someone coffee and saying "yes massa" to everything they say. Obviously we're not on the same page here. I'm a skyloft conciegre and my degree was the only thing that got me that position. I had to learn 5 POS systems and know every venue in the MGM mirage properties and others around the area by heart in less then a week. I beat out 20 other applicants with "real world experience" but no diploma without knowing anybody in the department. That's what an education will get you. My salary isn't all that high but yesterday I made close to 300 in tips (which is where those 100K salary jobs really come from by the way, a dealers wage is like 12 dollars an hour) and I don't have to deal with drunken cowboys yelling at me for builiding a 21 off five cards beating their soft 20. Trust me when I say if you have the motivation to put up with THAT crap then be my guest. Other wise spend a few bucks and go to that "third rate" school, even though it ranks number 2 in the country for hospitality and is growing every year in attendance. Have you even seen the campus recently? Have you spoken to the students? Some of my professors graduated from, now what was that school? Real small east coast oh yeah Harvard. I know more about the gaming and hospitality industry then anyone who's working the floor without spending time in class. THEY were the ones who told me to stay in school You'll never make VP from a dealer position and no education my friend.

I'm not saying you CAN'T do well for yourself in vegas without a degree because that's obviously not the case. I know a guy who dresses up like elvis and takes photos for tips on las vegas blvd everyday. He makes more then most doctors do, no lie. But there's something to be said for spending time in a class room and meeting minds with intellectuals. That's not all it takes to make it in the world but it's certainly a good start. You will NOT have this kind of luxuroy outside of vegas unless you go to atlantic city or the like. These places are few and far between in the world and you can't make it on will alone from the outside. My education combined with my will power and street smarts (I'm a club promoter as well) have me in a very good position. I have a back ups in place just incase things go through the floor here again like it did after september 11th and the MGM slashed half of their floor employees (that's the sh*t i'm talking about) and gained their reputation as the most cut throat casino on the strip. That's not going to happen to me you can bet your life on it. Go to school if anything just for the experience and in all to make yourself a better person more apt to carve a good path for yourself in life.

so is that what you do, working at a club? with whatever degree you have? you are still dreaming if they would hire some 20 somethings for upper management position. you are in a complete denial.

btw, i don't have to worry about my job, i work for clark county school district as a substitute teacher. this is my 10th year with the district, and as far as job security goes, i think i'm set for life.

The hype with a university degree? That's easy.

See, the thing is women are all looking for a guy that's "intelligent", right? Well, we all know how most women suck with numbers. Come on, you've heard the horror stories... "What do you mean I'm overdrawn? I still have checks!" or "Two lefts, then the third right? We better stop and get directions!"

Yeah, so rather than base a man's intelligence on a scale, in incremental measurements, women and women's media did away with all those pesky "IQ score numbers" and opted for a simple pass/fail system on which to base their intelligence assements:

Does Mr. Man have a university degree? Yes? No?

Yes = smart (pass)
No = stupid (fail)

Easy.

If you were wondering how I know this, I read all about it in Cosmopolitain.

At this point you probably have a woman (or multiple women) chasing you around, calling you all the time, wanting to be with you. So let's talk about how to KEEP a woman interested in you once you have her. This is BIG! There is nothing worse than getting dumped by a woman that you really, really like.

Did you just skim my post? Club promotions is my SECOND job. I said very clearly that I am a concierge at the Skylofts at the MGM. I'm in very good company and I have lunch with the Assistant VP of the Hotel daily (we had core training classes together so we're cool) I work as club promoter because I have a good network of street huslters working for me. I make a good living, and I love both of my jobs. I'll definately be in upper managment in the next 6-10 years and my club promotions job only gets easier as my network gets larger. I'll be in 6 figure income by the time I'm 30 because I understand the system from the ground up.

Oh my god! You work for Clark County School Districts and you're getting on ME for going to UNLV! You've got to be kidding me! You schooling ranks 183rd of 231 nation wide. I hope you give yourself a hefty pat on the back for those numbers tough guy. You're the reason I'm working so f*cking hard at two jobs, so I can send my kids to private school and teachers who teach their students well and prepare them for a good future as opposed to the guys who are "set for life" and don't seem to care too much about education at all. It makes complete sense now, you're a teacher who doesn't understand the value of higher education. Enjoy your "subsitute teachers salary" though. I'm sure you're doing well.:rolleyes:
