Don't always be the one putting yourself out for her. Don't always be the one putting all the effort and work into the relationship. Let her, and expect her, to treat you as well as you treat her, and to improve the quality of your life.

Then you aren't the kind of person who would need a psychologist. Chill. There are lots of people who either don't understand their problems, or CAN'T understand their problems. Psychologist can help those people help themselves. Don't dog them for that.ValleyDJing said:psychology is a *****. I hate it. Psychologists are some ****y motherf.uckers, no offense to anyone. But honestly, I'm gonna pay somebody to tell me how I feel? Who the f.uck do you think you are?! I know what my dodgamn problems are, I don't need you to tell me what they are.
As a lay psychologist, I will now analyze what issues are behind your rages...ValleyDJing said:psychology is a *****. I hate it. Psychologists are some ****y motherf.uckers, no offense to anyone. Every Industrial Phychologist I know works in HR pushing paper. I know a couple who stopped and went into teaching because in business they didn't feel that they were helping any individuals, they were just the keepers of corporate policy. One suggestion is to use the degree to teach managerial or team building seminars for companies like Skillpath or Executrain.oakraiderz2 said:Yea, anyone interested or going to school for i/o psych?
Do not be too easy. If you are too easy to get, she will not want you. If you are too easy to keep, she will lose interest in you. If you are too easy to control, she will not respect you.

That sounds lame. I would like to be a consultant, but i realize everything doesnt happen the way you expect. Ive been trying to decide whether a masters will be enough or if i can tolerate school for 5 more years after im done. How many Industrial Psychologist do you know?Francisco d'Anconia said:Every Industrial Phychologist I know works in HR pushing paper. If thats the case i dont wanna waste my time. What kind of stuff did you did? Did you have a lab?The Living Legend said:I'm just finishing up an I/O Psych class now.
The class was boring as hell...I'm surprised I didn't lapse into a coma.
Yeah, it's a shame that the companies don't use the talent more effectively. Psychology overall is interesting once you can get past all of the theory. You could always consider clinical or counseling psychology but of course you'll need to pass additional tests to get your licensure if you're considering going into practice.oakraiderz2 said:That sounds lame. Yea, it seems like i/o psych would be beneficially but i guess not. It sounds interesting but i could see how it could be boring. Ive been looking at counseling and clinical psych more. I didnt really wanna do clinical because thats what everyone wants to do but thats not the best reason not to do something.Francisco d'Anconia said:Yeah, it's a shame that the companies don't use the talent more effectively. I know 10 or 12 i/o based psychologist, most of them working in human resources along with more people who have a B.S. in psychology. A few are going back to school to get clinical training or to become educators. I do know one guy who got a gig designing esthetically pleasing data entry screens for computer programs. I think he took the job just for the money.

exactly! I consider myself to be a fairly smart person, but I don't sit there and rub other people's noses in it. Psychologists though, they're some ****y motherf.uckers. We were watching a movie on someone with paranoid schizophrenia or something like that, and the teacher is sitting there rattling off terms like, as a psychodynamically oriented psychologist, and dialectical, etc. And the students that actually want to become psychologists (I'm just in the class because I signed up late and all the good classes were take), were spitting the same s.hit right back at her. I was like, who talks like that?! Shut up!The Living Legend said:I'm just finishing up an I/O Psych class now.

I think to do well in it you need to have a Ph.D and produce original research, but that's just my notion based on talking to him and to some other people in the department.
FdA, you seem to have a strong interest in psychology..are you a psychologist? I think it would be really interesting to have a professional psychologist posting on this board. I'm deciding between clinical/counseling psych and social psych for graduate school right now.
The misconceptions about what psychology entails definitely puts limitations on how it could be best used in corporate America. More times than not you have to build a company around an idea. Take Dr. Phil, after 10 years of doing marital counseling (and hating it) he decided to start doing court consulting and made millions. Now look at where he's at, all from an idea.oakraiderz2 said:Yea, it seems like i/o psych would be beneficially but i guess not. It sounds interesting but i could see how it could be boring. You're right. Having a Ph.D or even a Psy.D helps immensely. In some states you can actually counsel with a MA or MS with the appropriate licensure but the real benefits come from the full doctorate.doctoroxygen said:The professor who taught my first methods course was a retired I/O psychologist who ran a VERY successful consulting firm, made a lot of money, then went and got a job at my university as a lecturer.
