I read an article in Monday's paper about testicular cancer becoming more and more common in young men.

So I decided to examine myself, and found a decent-sized growth along the right epididymis (the tissue above your nut that holds it there). There was no lump on the testicle itself so I wasn't sure what to think.

I did a bit of research and found that a tumour can grow here but it is rare. It definitely did feel cancerous compared to the left side.

The next morning I woke up with swelling on the right side, my lower abdomen was feeling the pinch also.

Because I was swollen to nearly double size I could no longer feel the area with the swelling I clearly noticed the night before. I wanted to see the doctor, but figured that he won't be able to feel the growth.

So I waited a two days (was VERY busy anyway) mentally preparing myself for the shock that was to come. I was project manager at a first meeting with a client for a large IT industry project. I soldiered through that unaffected, even though I turned a little queasy when I put two and two together:

The planned website is to be called bollockswatch.org.....

My nutsack was throbbing and my mind was churning with thoughts of losing a nut, but nobody (friends, family, girls on the street) noticed that something was troubling me.

This confidence thing must have worked so well for me that walking around in a suit in the state I was in still managed to exude confidence. (??)

So the swelling didn't go down and I was forced to see the doctor just 1 hour ago. Like I thought, he could only feel the swelling (not the pronounced growth) and seemed to be more concerned about a possible hernia.

My nuts were PERFECTLY fine before I examined myself - no swelling, regular size, zero pain, lots of ejaculation power :). How can there have been a hernia if it only swelled up now?

I insisted on getting a referral for an ultrasound which he gave me. He also referred me to a surgeon to examine me, in case his hernia theory was true.

I'm not a pessimist, but I believe the growth I felt was cancer. It was definitely not intestine (a hernia). I've had a hernia before and I know my body.

However, I'm not afraid. I've had major operations and illnesses before and I know testicular cancer has a 90% cure rate. If the test results prove me right, I'll fight this thing with all the spirit and self-confidence I've gained in past 6 months thanks to this site.

Please guys, inspect your balls now. It's better to find out sooner rather than later.

The ultrasound is in 1.5 hours. Wish me luck people.

It is possible that, in checking, you fired off the same nerves that would get pinched if you really did have a tumour...
then, from that pain you decide to check again, producing more pain... finally you go to a doctor, and he tells you, 'nope, no cancer.'

Inflammation (swelling) and pain is not typical of testicular cancer. It does sound more like a hernia.

Rarely, a hernia can descend down into your scrotum and become trapped. Once down there, the blood supply to the part of the mass (intestines or wall of the bladder) that is trapped can become compromised and produce pain and swelling.

Your concern in this case would be the decreased blood supply to the herniated mass. Hernias can be painful or not. The more you strain from exertion, the more herniated the mass can become.

A testicular tumor is usually firm and painless.

I lean more towards hernia and my other guesses from the info you provide is:

2. varicocele
3. hydrocelle
4. spermatocele.

Phew, probably no cancer.... But something is definitely wrong down there.

You guys are probably right about being too rough, but the VERY first gentle touch revealed to me that the epididymis was enlarged and swollen.

The ultrasound guy rubbed that scanner thing all around my nuts for about 20 minutes - damn I wish it was a lady! He wasn't a doctor so he couldn't quite diagnose me but he said there was excess fluid (the swelling) and the epididymis may have been torn in places and wrapped around itself.

That's probably why it felt tumorous.

Anyway my surgeon has been sent the full report so he can interpret it for me tomorrow. It looks like it'll be regular groin surgery to repair the tissue.

What a relief! For a while I feared losing half of my manhood.

That's good to hear....fingers crossed for the follow-up

At least you have got it checked out...and now whatever needs to be done will be done...

And trust me, you wouldn't want a woman doing the examination on you.... ;)

Dude, if anyone who doesnt have cancer can feel you its me. I have testicular varices, which is varicose veins in my testicles. At only 18 years old, it sucks big time. What it looks like is nothing while im sitting down, but when i stand up it gets so huge my left ball makes my right one turn sideways. Ive heard that i can become infertle from it and my doctor has even suggested having some of my sperm frozen should i really want kids. I got an ultrasound done about 2 weeks ago, but have yet to get any results. good luck to you, and your not alone in this crap.

Is there any procedure to have them removed? The veins I mean, not your bollocks ;o) Interested as I had varicose vein surgery on my left leg earlier this year and recovered very quickly. Not the same as you're situation I'm sure, but curious all the same.

Ouch D'Lite I feel sorry for you.

Well the results are back and my nuts are as good as gold! The swelling has gone down too.

And it actually turns out that having this checked revealed favourable news for me.

I'm proud to say I'm damn fertile!

You see, the swelling I felt was merely a thickening of the epididymis, the tube that holds the sperm after it's produced. The sperm waits here until it is needed. Once it fills up it comes out involuntary (wet dream) or is absorbed back into the bloodstream.

According to the report my epididymis has "quite considerable increased vascularity". That means it has a larger capacity, probably double seeing what it felt like. So I basically have a f*ckload of little me's waiting to burst out when the time is right!

And since there is more sperm, my good 'ol prostate must be providing more seminal fluid to allow them to 'swim' easily, resulting in a big load for me!

Useless ego stroking over!

So get your nuts checked out, it may make you happy.

Heh, it didn't overflow. It's just that your nuts produce millions of sperm every second, so my plumbing has a big "waiting room" so to speak.

And i just went to the normal doctor who referred my to a radiologist on the same day. And all free in good 'ol Australia
