Awesome post. To add to that... it was the founding fathers who stated that farmers are the most free and independent.Create Reality said:the matrix, the matrix, how ever we define the matrix... its all in your head. there are dominant forces in the world that wield mass influence on all societies. there is no wild west sense of freedom anymore. this is because people have chosen to take the path of least resistance, and let the conglomerations cater to their every need. do you not have land to grow your own food? this is because those that wield influence on society have given you a path, to rent an apartment and go buy mass produced merchandise at their stores. and every day you rent property you line their pockets and then you work to keep doing it, too.
economic polarization is a frightening truth. and look at it this way: as our energy sources dwindle, the rich will have all it takes to survive in any fashion they desire. and then there will be people, reduced to plebs with no life to know except to work for a company that produces assets that the rich will use to reinforce a cycle of poverty. because everybody's gotta eat.
but if you grow your own food...
you live as you choose.
As long as you depend on other people (like customers), you will never know true freedom. Those who labor in the earth [farmers] are the chosen people of God, if ever he had a chosen people, whose breasts he has made his peculiar deposit for substantial and genuine virtue. It is the focus in which he keeps alive that sacred fire, which otherwise might escape from the face of the earth. Corruption of morals in the mass of cultivators is a phenomenon of which no age nor nation has furnished an example. It is the mark set on those, who not looking up to heaven, to their own soil and industry, as does the husbandman, for their subsistence, depend for it on the casualties and caprice of customers. Dependence begets subservience and venality, suffocates the germ of virtue, and prepares fit tools for the designs of ambition.
