Hi. Two months ago or so, I used to wake up at 5 every morning, go to bed at 10ish. I'd run that early.

Then I got a bike for the daily transportation. I usually go 5 miles minimum every day, sometimes 10, and other times 20. Not a big deal. This biking thing reasulted in me loosing exactly 0 lbs. I don't loose weight while biking.

But none the less, I love it. It's much more exciding that driving a car and I can get places faster. I don't have a license so gotta do biking for now.

My problem is that I like to sleep more than I used to once I start biking. Todate I am unable to wake up at 5 and run. I just can't. If I go to bed at 10 and wake up at 6, I'll go ahead and turn off the alarm clock and sleep till 7, and then do that again and sleep till 8.

But usually I go to bed at 12 and wake up at 9. It seems that I like to sleep 9 hours minimum since starting biking. I don't know what's going on.

I need help. I want to get back into early morning running. At other times it's too hot and not practical. What can I do?

1) Put the alarm far away from your nightstand so you can't turn it off.
2) Don't rationalize, get up.
3) Use principle of progression: wake up 7, week after 6, week after 5,...
4) Sleep in earlier

Doesn't matter if it's the biking or not. Just get up.

Use several alarms, clock, cellphone, etc...
Let's say you want to wake up at 6:00am
So you program 3 alarms: 5:55am; 6:00am and 6:05 am

If you want to get up earlier get to bed earlier. Getting adequate sleep is important.

I have this problem worse than anyone I Know. I can put my alarm in a different ROOM, and I will cut it off, and go to sleep in the couch instead of the bed. i just can't help it.

a couple of thigns that work for me

1) It's not the amount of sleep it's the quality of sleep. I know myself. I can't, under any circumstances, fall asleep on my stomach. i'm a hopeless cause the next day if I do. when I go to sleep on my back I pop up the next morning

2) My dogs. If I'm not up by say... 9am.. the bigger one will hop on my bed and just sit on me until I get up.

3) as silly as it my sound.... my mom.. to this DAY will call me at 8:30ish every weekday to make sure I'm up... it's usually a 10 second call.. but she knows all too well. she gets up at 4am and she's good and woke by that time. and she lives half way across the country. when the phone rings that usually gets me up.

if my mom for some reason is busy and doesn't call me and my dogs are sleep.... it's very easy for me to sleep until 2pm.. if not longer. I'm that horrible.

Right about the time I got my bike I stopped taking multi vitamins. Centrim Performance. Could this be the cause?

Now. Whether I wake up after over sleeping or wake up early, it doesn't matter. In fact I think I feel better throughout the day if I wake up early.

Quality of sleep? It's great. After biking if I stretch it feels really good, like my muscles having orgasms.

I gotta do this somehow. Previously I found out that tomorrow starts today with an early sleep. But, going to bed at 10, 10:30 ish seemed not have helped me at all. Today, I'll bike again, get ready for bed early, sleep early, and give another shot tomorrow morning.

On the rare occasion i fall asleep on my back, i will inevitably wake up in about 20 minutes gasping for air and roll over onto my stomach and go back to sleep.

Ever since i started taking melatonin and zma before bed i've felt a lot less tired and not even wanting to go back to sleep when i wake up.

This is very sweet. I love your mom.

Never try to read a woman's mind. It is a scary place. Ignore her confusing signals and mixed messages. Assume she is interested in you and act accordingly.

Well, Good Fellows last night. Went to sleep 12 30. Put alarm to 6.

I think I either turn it off or didn't woke up for the alarm.

Here is a related problem. How to go to bed early?

By first waking up early. How can you turn the alarm off if it's not at your nightstand?

I get up, walk to it, turn it off, then go to sleep. Today I don't remember doing that, so perhaps I slept right through it.

I think going to bed early is the culprit.

seconded. also, I have had this problem, and one thing that helped was using a pc connected to speakers with no external volume control, logged out and monitor off, so that I had to log in and sit down to turn the sound off, and half a red bull sitting next to the keyboard, a bathrobe on the chair, and my university email etc on the desktop. this is probably a bit 'different' but i've tried everything else and getting myself to 'think' is the only thing that works at 7am.

Buy 8 alarm clocks and plug them all in around your room. Consider a power bar to plug an extra three or four clocks in. Stagger the time that they go off( 1 minute apart). By the time you're done turning them all off, you'll be too angry to go back to sleep. Also, crank the volume.

Have something to look forward to in the morning. Personally I like to plan out a good breakfast the night before. Then when I wake up I'm really hungry and excited to eat something, lol.

I also like to set my stereo to start at a certain time and play a good song that pumps me up. Or you could get this alarm clock :p http://www.thinkgeek.com/homeoffice/lights/9171/

Another thing you can try is sleeping less. If I sleep too much it makes me more tired, strange as that sounds, and I end up sleeping all day and it messes up my whole schedule.
