White and asian guys have more of a chance with black women then they think.
On the flip-side, I'm a black man and I'm going to be living in Japan (Okinawa) for the next couple of years. I'm leaving in a few months. My question is, do Japanese women like black men? Will I have any trouble get some play when I go over there.
Well, race in Japan is a fairly complex thing. Japan is a
very homogeneous society; a 1,500-year history almost devoid of unintentional contact with foreigners will do that to a culture. As such, there are levels of discrimination there that would simply not be acceptable in the States. Not just against round-eyed gai'jin (be they Black or White), but against other East Asians. There was an incident in Japan a few years ago where a Korean-born boy splashed a Japanese girl in a public swimming pool to the point where she complained. Suddenly, all ethnic Koreans were banned from that swimming pool. In the US, that would be a violation of civil rights. In Japan, it's a Thursday. Sadly, a number of conservative Japanese girls -- the
Yamato Nadeshiko archtypes -- may not like you, as their parents would disapprove of your relationship.
Of course, wherever something is forbidden, it's seen as dangerous. And some girls
love a guy who's dangerous.
Just as some conservative girls may fear you, there will be some other Japanese girls that will want you for the very same reason. You're bound to meet a girl over there who will wonder, "Is it true what they say?" And you'll be there to show them.
Also, Okinawa is more Americanized than the rest of Japan (some Japanese don't think of it as the "real Japan"), so things will be more like home in Okinawa than, say, Kyoto. If you go to the main islands, there may be some incidents where you're not allowed into some shops (more likely in the older, traditional villages; a cosmopolitan city like Japan will generally welcome anyone regardless of race, so long as they have money to spend). Don't take it personally, and know that the shop owner may very well be doing the same to Whites, Koreans, etc.
But yeah, have fun. Things will be different, but it's also a fascinating place. Enjoy the soy sauce!
