Well, that's mostly thanks to HighSchool TV (also known as MTV) which - when was that? '84 when it started? - is corrupting the minds of our nations youth. It should be noted, though, that MTV really didn't go down the sh!tter completely until the 90's. Up until then, they actually kinda lived up to the "music televsion" idea by showing music on television. Nowadays...Well...You know what it's like now.
MTV used to be awesome.... like when the Cars won the Video of the Year.

It's only hypothetical, but I believe if there wasn't some television juggernaut channel fully devoted to brainwashing children for the sake of money in the music industry, then the boybands/girlbands/pop-rock groups would have never happend - possibly ending world hunger in the process.
How are you always on the ball??

BTW, television corporations don't think much of Generation X and Y. Sad, huh? Kids are the future, my àss....

[EDIT] Other great bands that won Video awards....

Don Henley
David Bowie
Bruce Springsteen
Van Halen
Dire Straits
Guns n' Roses
Michael Jackson

Pretty soon kids are definately not going to be "the future" if more corporations like MTV directly target them at an early age and try to get them all to do/like the things the corporation wants them to. Soon enough, that future might already be pinned in their minds because popularity and "fitting in" are too very difficult monsters for kids to wage a war with. In this sense, and on a possibly more cataclysmic level of television marketing, we all ought to be robots in...Oh, I'd say 20 years.

Ahh...I'm done rambling...

To get back on topic: I still hate U2. (Funny, if you say "I hate U2" to someone, it sounds like you're saying "I hate you too." Maybe the band did this so everyone who doesn't like them would end up fighting each other into nonexistance. :) )

Funny story, and I'm not lying either - Back in like 2nd grade, I had to go to the hospital because I got a little pebble lodged in my ear and couldn't get it out. Had to flush it out with this weird little hose-style thing.

Hrm...maybe...Maybe the reason I don't like U2 is because of that. But I doubt it :)

20 years?? Ehh.... i'd give it two years....

When I first heard of "U2", (I was like six, give me break...) I thought they were named after the spy plane.

I was thinking..... "WOW!! That is so cool!!"

They're a cool group though....

If you want to talk, talk to your friends. If you want a girl to like you, listen to her, ask questions, and act like you are on the edge of your seat.

Yeah, I think they might be...I just like the idea that they made it U2 so saying that you hate them made it sound like you hated the person you were talking to so you'd get into a fight.

But seriously, can anyone please justify "The Edge" as a nick name? I mean, c'mon on - I used nicknames like that in 1st grade when I pretended I was a downed military insurgent behind enemy lines, armed solely with a field knife and the American spirit.

Always liked U2, though I feel they're a bit past their prime.

I give props to their music and one thing people haven't really recognized is Bono's faithfulness to his wife Alison Stewart, I mean common the guy is a famous rock star and is crave by women around the world yet he managed to stay faithful to his one and only wife he's had all these years. ( I believed they married in 1983.)
I know this maybe an irrelevant info, but still, how many rockstars do we know actually pulled that of?

Out of the bands that started when U2 did, Sonic Youth blows them away.

Bono's too busy right now guilting our PM into all these causes to actually write good music. Maybe Martin thinks that if he doesn't Bono will write a cr@ppy song about him? U2 should just become pure activists and exit music before they become pathetic shadows of their former good selves(Although I never really liked them), ala McCartney and the Stones.

The 80s

The amount of taste people had in music back in the 80's could be summed up into one word: Anything.
That's about it, all right. Everything from the worst crap to the most brilliant works...

There's the day-glo 80s most people know; and there's the 80s that featured Echo & the Bunnymen, REM, XTC, Husker Du, the Violent Femmes, some of Peter Gabriel's best work, etc.

I'd rate Echo & the Bunnymen's Ocean Rain as good as any album I've heard.
