Alright. I've been trying to go the gym to work out and get some cardio in for the first time ever. So far it seems I'm getting stronger and healthier, but I'm still a mess. The all nighters I pulled throughout this year to do school work has taken a toll on me and the fact that I haven't been eating right doesn't help me out too much. At the moment, my body feels like its saturated with sugar and I know my blood sugar is pretty high. I feel gross. I need some kind of plan, tips, and suggestions to help detoxify my body.

Basic rules I made for myself is avoiding the obvious like high fats, white bread, etc...drinking a LOT of water, sleeping earlier

Can anyone give me some kind of to-do list/stuff to avoid list to reset my body to a healthier state. Suggest that I drink green tea or something.

It's a slow process that is usually done one step at a time.

First step: cut soda and sweets.

I'm not going to recommend it cause i'm still trying it out but do a search for Milk Thistle (its a herb) and see if it might be able to help you. It's basically said to help liver function.

as long as you don't take 'de-toxify' literally (it's all 100% demonstrated scam artist bull****), you could achieve a lot by eating better and getting on a regular sleep pattern.

i'm guessing caffeine might be part of your story. while switching to water, also try green tea (brew your own, not in a bottle). it'll give you a long, slow caffeine buzz (blah blah blah polyphenols blah blah blah) that will help you get off that train. for me if i drink more than 12 oz of caffeinated soda in 24 hours i feel like total crap for the 24 hours or so after the last sip.

Eat raw fruits and vegetables for a week. Maybe even a high fiber cereal/oatmeal or something for breakfast. That will do it. I wouldn't waste my time with all those so-called "cleansers" out there, they never worked for me. Drink PLENTY of water, that is the key.

And do some exercise that causes you to sweat a good bit to get toxins out.

Just my personal experience with detoxing, I'd do it something like this:

Day 1-3 - fasting. water, green tea, and fresh lemon juice only(make it yourelf!).

Day 4-6 - Add select foods back in to your diet. Protein and fats only. Stuff like steak, eggs, chicken, tuna, cottage cheese, whey, butter, olive oil, eat that stuff. Aim for 1000kcals per day.

Day 7-9 - Add carbs back to your diet. No fruits. Carbs like oatmeal, sweet potatos, potatos, yams, brown rice. Day 7 eat 50g of carbs. Day 8 eat 100g of carbs. Day 9 eat 150g. Aim for 1200-1600kcals per day.

Day 10 - .... - Increase the amount of protein and fats that you eat until you aren't hungry during the day.

* Add steady state cardio at day 5, and add regular workouts at day 8 or 9.

** You should still be drinking lemon juice and green tea by the end of it.

*** The whole point of this diet is to initially force your body to start eating itself. Then give it alternate fuel sources that are healthy. Start with protein and fats, then slowly add carbs in to your diet.

**** Drink plenty(PLENTY) of water and green tea and lemons, it'll help flush your system.

***** Working out is pretty much out of the question when you're starved. You have little real energy and could hurt yourself. Add it in slowly a couple days after you start eating again.

--

The beauty of doing it this way is it gets rid of most food cravings because you starved your body initially. Your body should start to crave the foods that you ate right after fasting(protein + fats).

I did this exact detox a couple years ago when I just started working out, and I found it helped quite abit.

EDIT: There is also a MASTER CLEANSE thread in the vault posted by Senor Fingers regarding detox. It's hardcore, but it does indeed work.

I know you guys push tea (which is understandable, it's good for you) but what about coffee? Black coffee with cream and maybe 1 sugar packet. I know it's not the best for you, but say 1 cup twice a week. Is that a terrible thing to have (assuming you ditched soda and whatnot). I like chilling at a coffee shop with my laptop occasionally in-between classes.

Good advice here. Only i would advise not to drink green tea because of the caffeine (green tea only has a little bit...but still).

coffee lacks the antioxidants and other beneficial compounds found in green tea, which also slow down the absorption of the caffeine.

don't knock green tea until you've tried it -- most guys who are sensitive to caffeine find that green tea doesn't hit them the same way.

Don't think 'detox' means anything. You have kidneys for a reason.

Change your diet and the sugars and stuff will balance themselves in time.

I agree PeeGee.

Simply eating healthy and exercising is enough to make people feel great.

Personally though, I need a kick start to everything I do. Start with a punch and keep the momentum, so if I'm starting a diet, the first week is always really hardcore, then I relax into a rhythm.

Starting with a very serious 'detox' is great because it gets your mind focused on the right things and instills the good habits very quickly.

Also, some people are sluggish even when eating healthy because of a clogged colon or intestinal tract. Perhaps not enough fibre + water? I don't know, but I find the best way to flush the system is to fast for a couple days with water, tea, and lemon juice(enough taste and calories to ward off major hunger). Once your bowels, liver, colon, and intestinal tract are sparkling clean, THEN you start to feel really great. There's lots of built up crap on the walls of your bowels and colon that doesn't come off until you've saturated your system with water and a solvent(lemons, citric acid).

It's really up to you, but I find the best way to get off to a good start is to follow a strict plan.

Yeah, forgo most processed foods if you can. Better still if you pass on most of the stuff with preservatives for a while.

Sounds like me. First get some rest... Second focus on a healthy breakfast. A good start really helps out the day. On days when you can exercise before work or school.

Drink only water or milk for awhile.
