My family's renters pay $400/mo for a trailer that is 2-3 bedrooms, 1-2 bath depending on which one, 1 acre lot, we let them have pets. Idk what you do for a living, but finding a way to work remotely and then moving to a cheaper area is an idea.

If you have to have a roommate, you want to align your habits with theirs : drinking, weed, tobacco, hard drugs even, these things are less bothersome from someone else when you do the same thing.

Good luck man.

OP,

If you are having success scoring chicks out of your parent’s basement, why would you need to fight your wallet?

All this to say I'll have to keep looking.
No buddy. With your income you have to live with your parents. You can not spend half your income on rent. You have to at this point save money for a half year cushion. Improve your income situation. Why you need a place anyway? You should be at work most of the time anyways. Just spend 6 night out of the week in your place, and then on sunday relax? Stay with your parents.

Because I didn't want to be here as long as I have been. When I left my job and moved back in I had the impression that I would pick up something else and be out within a year. That didn't go according to plan, and the part-time job that I used to get by while working on other ventures is now the full-time job that I rely on entirely.

I'm getting older and I've been here far too long, but everywhere is so expensive that I don't have the confidence in my income that I'd be able to move out and STAY out, and fear repeating the process that brought me here in the first place.

I do actually, I had one over just last night, but you can keep trying to wrap your head around the fact that it's possible to get laid without our own place.

Yeah, there aren't at least a few million far more compelling motives for a man to be able to live independently... Being able to boff the waitress from Waffle House, without having your mother overhear that broad ask "Is it in yet?" is the most important thing in life

One which makes J.J. DeAngelo's predilection for attractive young women residing in single-stay homes, between the years of '75-'76, pale in comparison

Today I'd spent some time on Apartments.com looking around at what's near me. Chances are my brother won't be moving out of NY anytime soon, and I decided to look at my options if I do NOT bring in a roommate.

For starters, the absolutely dumpiest trailer trash studios/1BRs are about 800 at minimum. I've found a decent number of places that are $1,000/mo which would be pretty reasonable.

What I'm trying to decide is the location. So I'm going to bring in the local location guru @SW15 for this;

  1. Somewhere nearby - The concern here would if I increase my income enough to replace my job I might be locked into something that I don't want to stay with.
  2. Somewhere close to the fun and close enough to work - There are a few nice spots that are about 30 minutes from Philly and about 30 minutes from work, which is pretty reasonable. The problem is that it's not close enough to the fun stuff that it wouldn't still be very expensive to uber out there.
  3. Somewhere close to the fun - Philly has some places that are within that $1,000/mo range, but almost all of them are very small studio apartments. Which isn't a problem, I don't need much space, but my concern would then be the commute to work. The positive would be that I could basically walk to wherever I wanted to go on weekends and would save a ton of money on ubers. The downside is that Philly isn't exactly "nice" to walk around in later at night, and I'd have to get up quite a bit earlier to commute to work unless I'm given some remote privileges (which I doubt).

I would not recommend getting the absolute dumpiest place. The $1,000 budget to get something a little better is a good idea.

There are interesting choices.

I think #2 is the worst choice of all 3. You're not well situated in Option 2 to seduce Philadelphia women and you're also far from your workplace. You sacrifice convenience for nothing there.

Option 3 is a good option. You seem to know Philadelphia reasonably well. It wouldn't be difficult for you to do well in Philadelphia because you likely know Philadelphia's good bars and its good daygame spots. If I moved to Philadelphia today, it might take me 6 - 12 months to get a handle on that, though Google, Instagram, and other internet resources can help shorten that learning curve for transplanted adults. Walking later at night in Philadelphia isn't good as you describe. It's possible in Dallas in certain areas with good nightlife and good lighting but not recommended.

You are also good looking and that would help in Philadelphia, even if you don't have as many friends in Philadelphia as you do in Wilmington.

You could defend choosing #3.

I think Option #1 is your best choice. You stay close to work and close to your existing connections in Wilmington. While the 33 mile distance from Wilmington to Philadelphia isn't much, it is far enough that it's a separate scene. That is a similar distance as Dallas to Fort Worth. As a Dallas resident, I'm not regularly in Fort Worth.

You are doing well with getting laid in Wilmington. You know Wilmington's scene better than you know Philadelphia's scene. You get to keep doing everything you do in Wilmington and now you'll have your own space for sex.

The best thing about this is that you're an apartment renter with this choice. You can choose Option 1 and sign a lease for 9-12 months. If you're not happy with #1, you can choose a pad near the most fun stuff in Philadelphia then. Maybe you also change jobs too during the next 9-12 months.

Do you know anything about the Chester area? That puts me about 20ish minutes from both work and fun, which would be somewhat reasonable.

Or even somewhere in that general area that maybe has a little less crime.

EDIT: Maybe not, apparently it's in like the 97th percentile for crime, meaning it's only safer than 3% of US cities...

I don't have strong knowledge of the specifics of Philadelphia as I have not spent a lot of time in Philadelphia.

If you wanted to move closer to Philadelphia, you would need to move to the most fun parts of Philadelphia. You'd need to move nearest to Philadelphia's nightlife venue scene. This gives you the best logistics for sex with Philadelphia women. Your height & physique help you but you still want to make logistics work the best they can in your favor.

This is why I'm still leaning toward Wilmington for you. You know the Wilmington scene best and you don't have to disrupt your life.

I'm thinking that moving to Philadelphia would likely require a job change to get you closer to the best Philadelphia neighborhoods for singles. This isn't a good economy for job changes.

If you want to move to Philadelphia, do it the right way.

If I was OP I would stay at home and save up. I wouldn't move anywhere unless I had a minimum of 10K in savings (even that isn't enough with prices now a days)
OP you're in a unique situation you can get chicks living with your parents, you got some members here who live on their own and they haven't had a woman come back to their place in months or years.

But IMO if you can try to get a place on your own a roommate past the age of 30 is not it

Just wanna highlight this point because you've brought it up twice and I don't want you to assign too much weight to the decision based on this...

Most of the women I've been with, despite me living in Wilmington, are not the local scene. A lot came from the Newark college bars, a couple from NJ, a couple from the PA West Chester area. Wilmington itself has only 1 "good" bar and I'm not a fan of it because they're the same post grads every time, and finding hot women out there is like searching for a needle in the hay stack.

Yeah right now I'm looking at studios and 1BRs. They're all about the same around $1,000 - $1,200 per month. I do think it's time to get out of the house soon, especially since I never wanted to be here this long in the first place. Plus maybe having that expense each month would apply the pressure I'd need to really put effort into my business ideas, and would allow me more logistical freedom with women instead of hoping their place is available. Because, as I've mentioned in my other post in the general forum, a lot of women are in the same position as myself - it's just more socially acceptable for them to be in it.

If Philadelphia is the center of the poon hunting universe in that area, find a way to get near the good parts of Philadelphia and commute to work in Wilmington. That's Option 3 from the list above.
