The way I do this is to get on a comfortable level with them.
Start talking fluff talk and superficial speak and get a long convo going... start trailing off with your words, looking off into the distant... then BAM! "So, do you have a crush on me?" while being bold and staring straight into her eyes, not smiling or smirking... but seeming totally "serious". It's more fun if you're good at reading body language and how people react.
They'd most likely be shocked that you'd be forward like that and take a while to process it.
If you do this, you better be one hell of a funny/confident/witty guy... because you have to throw a funny/confident/witty comment after they reply.

Id say basically ask her out to the cinema or sumthin, its that simple. YOUR just as FRIENDS at this point, have a nice afternoon just you and her. If it goes well, you'll both want it.. go to say bye and kiss her. Therefore you then say "so we're more than just friends ehh?" Its all good. YOU SCORE!
So you want to know the truth behind the eternal question, "How do I KNOW she likes me?" eh?
The answer is you never will. Girls do not make sense. Girls do not think logically and do not do things that 'normal' people would do. Girls are not normal and should not be treated as normal.
You could meet a girl tomorrow, end up marrying her, grow old together, die, and be buried together. Does she really like you though? Most would say yes, but hey, what if she was only with you because you were rich? You will never really know.
Here's what you're going to do for me, depending on how well you know each other. Obviously you have talked before if you are even asking this question.
You will walk up and initiate a hug while greeting.
You will NOT start the conversation with "How are you?"
You will tell her to put her number in your phone because you two are going to do something crazy, insane, and completely illegal this [insert day].
Call her [day] and tell her what you two are doing. If she has plans, strike one. It's the same as baseball, and don't give her mulligans.
Hang out, isolate, make a fvcking move, get rejected? Oh well, move on. It worked? Great. Continue.

You dont need to know if she likes you, not knowing is half the fun. I love going to bed at night and have a girl to ponder about because im just not sure where I stand with her, "what does she think of me? does she like me?"

A rollercoaster ride of emotions, the ups of success and downs of rejection is what makes life fun. Who knows what will happen next.
