If what you want is happiness and peace of mind in life, here are some things to consider...
Happiness is found in doing, not just in merely possessing things or reaching the destinations; for the feelings back of these conditions are fleeting pleasures. Like others have mentioned, find out what your proclivities and gifts and talents are and throw yourself into developing them whole-heartedly. When we love to do something, it's not work to us. It's something that brings us joy and fulfillment in and of itself, just by being engaged in it. Furthermore, perhaps this talent can be used to serve others in exchange for an equivalent compensation. Search for ways to manifest that. If you realize this, you will find happiness in life, even if you're a celibate, poor man.
Where peace of mind is concerned, it deals with the problem of our relations with the people we encounter in life. The man who achieves peace of mind expresses nothing but good will for others; he sincerely desires for them what he does for himself: prosperity, love and well-being. This is two-fold. He refuses to treat others in ways that are damaging and offensive to them, and also he harbors no bitterness and grudges for those who have wronged him. The man who is at peace with himself and the world doesn't treat anyone the way he wouldn't want to be treated, and he feels no hatred or animosity when he thinks of those who have wronged him in the past. This is a result of a resolve he has definitely decided upon.
Blessed is the man who serves others in accordance with his talents and prospers as a result of these efforts, and also recognizes that those who offend him are also offending others in the same way, and are thus bringing compounded contempt for themselves, bringing them unhappiness and misery. In this regard, he is compassionate and feels empathy and pity for them, rather than a selfish rage.
Such a man becomes enlightened. Such a man becomes a god among men.
