If you and your girlfriend get into a fight and your trapped in the car with her and she is giving you the silent treatment.
Should You remain silent too?
Tell a joke?
Turn on the radio?

Dear Timmie,

Nothing can help if you have a sulky woman trapped with you, who insists on being sulky.

Try something new next time, you double the silent treatment time and don't talk to her. don't pick up calls for a day or two either,

if she leaves you, good riddance :)

I'm with Scaramouche on this one. I have an extremely low tolerance for this kind of thing.

Don't play into it.

Just say something like:

"It's clear you're not talking to me. I'm going to take off now. When you want to talk about what it is that's bothering you, you know how to reach me." Then, be gone and do not contact her.

You're letting her know, with actions, without emotion, that you have certain expectations of the women you date. If she's going to be manipulative/childish/immature, you have better things to do with your time ;)

FYI, silent treatment is a form of abuse for most people. In light of that, why are you with her?

If it were me, I would have turned the music on or called a friend and not played into it. At my age, that behavior doesn't fly and turns me off fast.

Upon dropping her off, I'd say "It's clear you're not talking to me for reasons I'm unaware of. If you change your mind and want to clue me in, you know how to reach me."

And leave it at that. Do not call, do not contact, and certainly find a more mature woman to spend your valuable time with.

Your other options are to play into it and pick at her until she tells you what's up her a$$, or get angry, be defensive, be apologetic, be supplicating, etc etc.

Others might differ in their approach, but standing your ground in the face of such immature and abusive behavior is non-negotiable. Hope this helps, let us know what happens!

ethat's happened with us more than once. cut on the XM radio and listen to my music. one time she got so pissy she cut it back off and i told her to look at how childish she is being, not wanting to talk but not wanting me to listen. i told her i know you want me to see how mad you are and i can verify that i know you are pissed at me without me having to sit here in silence. then cut the music back on and that was that.

i have a rule of thumb with my wife in the sense she's like me.. it takes a LOT to get her mad but when she goes on one, she goes on one lol. so with her i give her a 2-3 hour buffer regardless of the situation before i will even discuss whatever it is that is pissing her off beucase that's how long it takes her to get half ass normal again.

I asked my ex wife why she stopped giving me the silent treatment?she said "because you ENJOY it"...my advice to you is ENJOY it. Not having to listen to her stupid BS is GREAT. She can either tell you why she's mad or not...don't give a sh1t

And sometimes the "Silent Treatment" is just a form of passive aggressive behavior designed to make you comply with whatever the other person WANTS you to comply to.

Saying "yes" to a woman today just to quickly get back in her good graces could often cause you BIGGER problem with her in the future.

We never want to TRAIN people how to manipulate us to their own ends.

So let's stay alert out here.

Hey Slickster,

I heard that this was actually illegal in some parts of North America. Better check your state or provincial laws before the pulling the pen on the fart grenades...

My way of dealing with this is to go the exact opposite. I just start yabbering away. I dont care about what.

For instance:

Scenario - In a car, I'm driving, she's in passenger seat, just the two of us.

Her - Silent treatment
Me - Wow isn't it amazing how the light gets dappled through the trees. It really makes for interesting shadows.
Her - Silent treatment
Me - I remember this one time, when I was travelling. When was that. Um it was... about 1998 I think. Anyhoodiddly, we were in Greece. Ah that place is amazing, fantastic scenery and awesome people.
Her - Silent treatment.
Me - Yep, well anyhows, I was travelling around with this dude I met. He was South African - you know - had a bit of the apartheid thing going on and all, but a decent sort of guy. We grabbed an island ferry, we headed off to Paros. Wow THAT was a party island. Unbelievable...

You get the picture??

Deal with it? You don't...it's a double negative either way...hold your ground in a mature way until she decides to act proper.

Learn to be comfortable in silence.

Once you learn that, the silent treatment means nothing.
