Apparently, an adult woman’s choice to remain a virgin is such bombshell news that it makes next-day headlines on People.com, the Los Angeles Times, and the Washington Post. As evidenced by an incredibly unfunny TMZ segment that implies the Olympian should be humiliated by her chastity, there’s certainly a stigma attached to being a virgin in your late 20s. Jones deserves praise because no doubt, her announcement made many others choosing to abstain from sex feel more confident in their decisions.

Yes it is if you are hot enough to have sex yet decide not to do and stick to it.

Good post. And it also goes to show you that the act of sex really isn't the end all be all of being an alpha male and attracting women. I'm guessing Tim Tebow doesn't have an issue with lining women up to sleep with them, if he so chose.

What's interesting is that I never saw any shaming of Tim Tebow for being a virgin.

Are we only shaming women for being virgins and men are praised for it?

I think it is the situation that a man who *could* get pre-marital poontang, and chooses not to, like Tebow - or another religious NFL QB, Steve Young (Mormon) is considered a hero because he is choosing NOT to go for it - while the omega loser who cannot get such poon-tang (pre-marital, or marital), is considered as a loser for not having the ability, irregardless of that fact that he may be the type of person would would choose to not partake.

Along with this is the idea that these men who have the ability to get it, but do not, are the type of man that women would like to have as a faithful husband, as they are alpha enough to be able to get it in the first place - while the omega loser is not desired by women, and hence is heaped with scorn.

Tim Tebow being desired due to his money, athleticism, etc,...

Lori Jones is attractive and thus almost certainly desired by a large portion of men.



So, one we shame, and the other we celebrate. Why would this be?

Those shaming Lori Jones about being a virgin and principally other women. Think about it. I suspect it's good old fashioned competition anxiety kicking in and women minimizing another woman, a better woman, as a sexual challenger, even if they don't even know her or have zero risk of their men being taken away by her.

Firstly, the shaming we're talking about it media centric. Whether it derives from TMZ or facebook, that media is run to, for and about women and their fem-centric worldview.

They can't shame tebow, because he is essentially outside of their sphere of control.
