I still haven't heard a good answer of how those lifers in prison pump up like bulls even though they aren't visiting GNC and eating that slop they serve behind bars.
Show me one picture of an actual big, white, prisoner (not from the movies).
No such thing, they are skinny.

what kind of bulk have you put on with your no-supplement diet?
started weight lifting in 2005, at 140 lbs...

Bulked up to 210 in 2007..got into the fitness industry re-evaluated everything I knew about fitness and started on my physique and habits from scratch !! dropped down to 170 where I'm at right now.

I don't bulk up anymore..I only increase lean muscle.

I wake up..I eat oatmeal eggs and fruit.

throughout the day I eat meat all 3 kinds !! fish, poultry and beef.
I take whey protein in MILK and olive oil with 2 raw eggs every once in awhile if i'm still hungry or i'm just eating fish for dinner, puts me right to sleep !!

What is the value of fish oil?
lots if benefits to fish oil !! a quick search on google will show the significance of ONLY 2 grams per day on your health !

I usually take 6 grams in pill form along with a multi.

you need fish oil b/c modern industrial agriculture has taken the ratio of omega 3 to omega 6 fats in our diets from 1:1 or 1:2 and stretched it to 1:20 and beyond. even a little bit of fish oil -- and avoiding corn & other veggie oils -- brings that back into balance. basically, omega-3s are anti-inflammatory and omega-6s are pro-inflammatory. that doesn't mean you need zero omega-6, but don't worry, it's hard to avoid in modern diets.....

incidentally, my diet looks a lot like d&b's..... the only reason to hit whey is that it's a relatively cheap source of protein.

Other than fiber and carbs, how are you missing out on much? You can get fiber and carbs from many things.

This is pretty interesting man. I'd love to hear your theory's more in detail. I don't hear of people that swear that they can bulk without eating ****loads of protein and supplements.

Cheap, quality, convent, and tasty complex carbs. Good on ya if you can eat sweat potato post workout.
Rice I'm OK with but it gives me gas.

OK thanks everyone.
Its evident I need more protein.
The idea of having six meals a day, I may be able to keep it for a while but I doubt I would for long, but still
A couple of people have posted about whey/protein shakes, and it sounds like a feasable way of boosting protein as well as trying to eat more meat in my diet. Are there any catches? I need to learn more about it, how should you take it, when, how often etc, and (I'm in the UK btw) can anyone recommend a good place to buy it, which isn't a rip off

(and why is there always the tendancy to hijack posts and talk about prisoners getting built, it's not as if its relevent to any of us on sosuave?

ready123 is wrong...you grow as much if not more on rest days. so you need the protein as much if not more on rest days. and you don't get fat if you don't workout, this only happens if your calories in exceed calories out. however if you build a lot of muscle, it will slowly break itself down if you stop lifting entirely. but it doesn't "degrade to fat"

And the body does not turn protein to fat if you consume more than 30 grams. if you really put in more than it can handle at one time (and this is very hard to do), you're more likely to piss it out than put it on as bodyfat.
oh really? can i see where you got your info? extra calories no matter what kind are turned to fat. if i am wrong show me a textbook, journal article, or something

extra calories beyond what threshold? why 30 grams? where are you getting that number from? sure extra calories beyond your body's immediate needs can be turned into bodyfat, but it depends on many things, including what else you're consuming with that protein, insulin levels, etc. it's not as simple as calories in/calories out, never was, and i wish guys would stop repeating that crap here.

read up on "excretion of urinary nitrogen" and get back to me. the greatest risk of consuming too much protein by itself is that you'll piss it out, not that it will pack on bodyfat.

That has always made sense to me. If you eat too much of something, carbs say, at least some of the excess will come out your arse.

And the protein, rejog my memory. It's the excess protein that is broken down into urea in the liver which is then filtered out by the kidneys right? Or did I miss a step.
