i don't do pushups anymore, but back when i did them about a year and a half ago, i could do max 70 on my palms (although i usually did knuckle ones)

i think this shows that most guys in this forum just go to the gym to look better, not to be more healthy.

well it seems to me like the talk on this thread is that push ups dont make you big. if you can lift 250 but dont have the endurance to do 50 push ups then that doesnt say much to me. but its whatever floats your boat.

WTF? You'd take a guy's max pushup over max bench?

All this pro-pushup talk is from guys who workout at home and have a *nice* body. "Oh, I don't want to get bulky, even though I have no idea what it takes to get bulky." Sure, pushups are better than nothing, but after a couple of months, you need to move on. Would you squat the same weight but for more reps for months? Well, you guys do pushups, so you probably don't know what squatting is. These are the same guys who think they are muscular, but it's really just low body fat from being scrawny.

pushups stress endurance, not strength. if you want to look like a starving ck model, do pushups. jump rope. do jumping jacks and hindu squats.

however, if you want to be big and strong like bull, lift weights.

there was a training program in the navy or marines (not sure) where you would go to get in shape for some rescue assignment. anyway you go to this place and for example everytime you leave your dorm you have to do 100 pushups (with a higher ranking officer standing over you) and everytime you come back its 100 pull ups. thats just going into and out of your room. this was like 3 weeks of straight training, and when i met this guy his arms were HUGE and he was ripped like nothing you've ever seen. this wasn't too long after this training and i know he would have been nothing like that if he hadn't gone there. he also mentioned that it was mostly cardio stuff, not a whole lot of weights. but it sounded intense... and looked like it worked.


now, i'll stick to weights, but different goals require different procedures.

a few things, lifting to look better in my eyes isnt bad. thats just not my main reason for doing it. two, i cant belive demon backed me up. wow. three, the pushup thing is obviously a to each his own type thing. (if thats the right figure of speech). I think you CAN get bigger from pushups, because its done it for me. but weights i am not against, i was just giving my opinion based on what i have done.

keep it up edge, youll be at three in a week!!!!

Who says you cant get big doing pushup? one of my best friend not only he is bulk but rip! this guy comes from a poor family, he told me all he does is loaded his school bags with books and use those for curl and do over 1000 push up aday, sitday, thats all! dont want to sound gay but this guy got an amazing body, he was skinny before not he got vien poping out of his arm.

Note that he never took any suppliment, wrong diet, not that much sleep but he does eat alot, still if you can do 1000 pushup aday i think you can get lean mussle and huge like him, he told me to do 300 pushup in the morning, 300 afternoon and 400 at night before shower, that sound a lil crazy for me tho.

Look, you are a teenager and scrawny yourself. You can't say some other dude who is still carrying around his bookbag is ripped and huge. Walk into a powerhouse gym and get a better perception on what "Huge" is.

That's nice and all,but i dont want to look like hulk hogan or those other huge wrestlers.However,push ups do work. Someone mentioned that they got bored doing push ups,but he could only do 70 max!! WEAK! Today I just did 100 push ups all the way through and i've gotten a lot stronger. Yes,I am skinny,but with a nice build. As I was doing more and more push ups,I challenged my friend twice to see how strong I got. The first time,he just straight whooped me on some arm wrestling.I was doing about 75 at the time.He ways 250 pounds and I way 134,hahaha! Big difference. Second time I challenged him,I was doing 81 push ups,he still beat me.However,he didn't beat me as easily as he did the first time,I actually gave him a bit of a challenge.Now,tomorrow,I think I can defeat him,possibly. Lifting weights is important,as important as push ups.

Ofcourse he isnt anything compare to the proffesional builders but compare to the rest of you, am sure he is much bigger... hes bicep is bigger then my thigh! dont try to be a smart ass.

right now i can probably do about 50, but last year when i was working out all the time i had to do as many as we could in a minute for class and i did almost 60 in a minute.

pushups can build muscle just not nearly as good as lifting weights can.
