Hello, I am looking to get a weight bench and some weights for my place. It's hard for me to get to a gym, plus it can be expensive, and I'm wondering if this could be a viable option. I'm not looking to get huge but I'd like to gain some muscle (which has proven difficult as it seems I'm what they call a "hard gainer"). Any ideas on a home regimen would be greatly appreciated. Also, the kind of weight bench and weights to get would be excellent to know too. Thanks!

Hi BlueFlyer,
To gain muscles train heavy and stick with compound exercises. Incorporate some higher reps into your training and keep a workout journal. Squats, standing leg lifts, push ups, pull ups are great exercises to add muscles.

It is a good idea to set up a home gym.
If you can't go for a gym you can do some exercises at home.
You can do push ups, pull ups, sits ups, squats or yoga exercises at home without any equipment.

Try searching craiglists, I've seen good equipment on there (My Area) for good prices.

You will need, in order from most necessary to least:
1) 20kg Olympic weight lifting bar
2) Plates (preferably bumper plates you can drop)
3) Rubber mats so that you don't crack your concrete when you drop it
4) Squat rack, or Squat stand
5) Pullup bar
6) Gymnastics rings
7) Kettlebell (1.5 pood at least)
8) Medicine Ball
9) Rowing machine
10) Skipping rope
11) Box for box jumps
12) Rope for rope climbs
13) Dumbells
14) Ab mat
15) GHD machine

And other misc. things for sure. You can just acquire this sh1t over time, gradually build yourself the ultimate garage gym, that would be awesome.

A lot of people like TRX systems. I'd try to get on craigslist and order some free weights. You can probably find a lot of used stuff that people are willing to part with at a very cheap price.

My best workouts have always been from home and it's so easy to set up and very convenient.

I have a power bar plus bumper plates, bench and dumbells plus heavy bag for my boxing and martial arts training.

That's all.
