Julius I see what you're saying here, and I too think she is tooting her own horn (or playing her own violin?) about the disease. But when you think about it, when she rides out into the street, you think anyone gives a sht what disease she has? no they just think "fat ugly" and that's that. She has a condition that ISN'T going to ever get better, so she's accepted that and taken actions to make the most of it, and give her a little sanity.
Conclusion
I think it's ridiculous that this thread has gotten so many replies, but it did. But since there are so many, meaning others will read, I hope that what you take from this thread isn't making fun of this girl, or "Gee I'm lucky I'm not in a wheelchair".
What you need to take is realizing that most us are here to get good at girls. That is SO UNIMPORTANT AND MINISCULE compared to other cr*p in the world, GO DO IT. If that girl had a chance to be you for a day, she would LIVE LIKE SHE WAS DIEING. So go talk to the HB 9 across the room, go for the number, close.
By doing this not only do you fulfill yourself in ways that can't be expressed in words, but you give someone like her the satisfaction of having her dream come true, that SHE ACTUALLY DID INSPIRE SOMEONE. That makes her life worth it beyond measure.
