I work in busy shopping centre in Glasgow and last week while on my luch break spotted a stunning blonde girl working in the shoe shop just up from the store I work in.

I dunno what got into me, but I was in a ridiculously confident mood, so much so I felt that nothing could stop me. I decided 'what the hell' and just sauntered on into the shoe shop pretending to be interested in buying some shoes. I made sure that this girl served me, which she did.

She came over and I started some convo with her. She noticed my uniform (Was dressed in a suit) and she asked if I worked in the shopping centre, to which I replyed yes and tod her that I was on my lunch break. I then asked her when she was getting her break, which she told us wouldn't be for another 45 mins.

I decided to just ask her flat out if she wanted to go for a drink sometime and as soon as I asked this she went bright red. She looked really flustered and replyed "Oh I dont know, I think I've got a boyfriend"..........haha I burst out laughing.

I think she meant to say "no I've got a boyfriend", but obviously she didn't and messed up her words.

I smiled and just said "Well when you think you dont have a boyfriend you can come and ask us out for a drink" and walked out.

Can someone explain to me why/how this is excellent?

Create self-fulfilling prophecies. Always assume the positive. Assume she likes you. Assume she wants to talk to you. Assume she wants to go out with you. When you think positive, positive things happen.

because the ho turned him down, but he made fun of her being horrible with confrontation, so in the end, he had the balls to hit on her, and he got the last laugh.

You keep referring to yourself as "us"
Could it be you were there with somebody else?

Or did you make this up or heard this story from a friend?

oh yea by the way,

Just for the record...
What Dave did was NOT amazing.........
There was nothing impressive of what he did at all...
The only thing that was impressive if ANYTHING was that he was confident enough to go in to the store just to ask her out for a drink.

His reply was just a reflection from what she mistakenly said.
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SHEER BRILLIANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HappyHobo,

He used the word "us" in reference to himself ALONE. This is common in the northern UK. A guy may say to his girlfriend, "Give us a kiss", meaning "give me a kiss". Believe it or not, there is a parallel in certain regions of Germany, from what I recall of studying that language. I sometimes feel I'm becoming the transatlantic English variation redresser...

Hey Ulsterman, there is a NAME for northern UK and its SCOTLAND. And yes a lot of us say "us" in the singular. We also have a plural of "you" which is "yous". Makes sense I think.

Dave which shoe shop? I'm in Glasgow, maybe I'll give her a try hehe

It doesn't matter how good-looking you are, how romantic you are, how funny you are... or anything else. If she doesn't have something INVESTED in you and the relationship, preferably quite a LOT invested, she'll dump you, without even the slightest hesitation, as soon as someone a little more "interesting" comes along.

Bugs, they say it in Geordieland and Northern Ireland too; That's why I said the northern UK, not Scotland.... And aye, we use "yous" as well for you plural. I think the Texan equivalent is "y'all".
