I played football last school year as a Sophomore, it was pretty gay. Well...not really, we went undefeated and did better than varsity players. We went 6-0 and won the league championship, varsity went 2-4 in league 3-7 in total, fail.

Well anyways, I basically rode the bench the whole season, my piece of sh*t coach put me in at the end when we were winning 53059-0 just to make me feel better, and that pissed me off because I was a damn good O/D Lineman.

It was the first game yesterday under the lights for the first time (our school JUST put in lights for the field, after 49 years) and...we lost. But thats not the point, the point is, it looked like so much fun, and it was, because I remember when I used to "play" for the last few minutes of the game (damn coach)

My main problems are:

1. Starting over players.

Lets say I play Senior year, how do I start over a 5'7" guy who has the school record squatting 430+ and benching 400+?

Im bigger than the whole O and D Line, this year and last year, yet I didn't get a starting position?

BUT, my best friend tells me the lineman coach always talks about me and how I have the size they need, because their "line sucks"

2. Remembering plays.

Alot of people think Linemen just "block" No, only people who dont understand the importance of this position have ignorant comments like "being a lineman is easy". Your block, and the person you block (you dont always block the person directly infront of you) is based on the play thats about to happen, and I had trouble last year remembers whether to pull, block a linebacker, or anything else, this was also one reason I didnt get a starting position.

3. Practice is a B*TCH!

Not the drills, the conditioning. Im 250+ pounds, sprinting 100 yards multiple times isn't a walk in the park for me. And after that there is still more conditioning and running. Im surprised I made it through JV practice last year, now varsity?

This is another reason I want to lose weight, and also the reason I quit football last year, so I can try and drop the weight/body fat, so I can be in shape to play if I decide to join the team this or next year. Any ideas that you want to put forward to motivate me to become a better player, please post them. My team really underestimates me because I rode the bench last year.

Granted I'm a freshman, I've started all five years of football (save this season, which is my sixth and we're only two games in) I've played and I guess any input is good input, right? I've played RB, FB, OL, and TE offensively and every position on defense except safety.

Well anyways, I basically rode the bench the whole season, my piece of sh*t coach put me in at the end when we were winning 53059-0 just to make me feel better, and that pissed me off because I was a damn good O/D Lineman.
Take advantage of whatever playing time you can get. Play good enough that your coach has no choice but to respect your talent.

1. Starting over players.
Bust your ass in practice. If you're bigger and more determined than the others, there's five positions on the offensive line (four to six defensively) and the coaches will get you in somehow.

Learn to snap the ball, if you can. Both of the centers on my team suck as lineman, but they can snap the ball, so it makes them invaluable to the team. It can be the difference between playing all game or riding the pine for your junior year.

2. Remembering plays.
Study, study, study and study some more. Pay attention in practice, sub in when you can, and ask the quarterback or your other linemen if you don't know what to do. Most of our bigger lineman sit on the bench because they don't know the difference between pass blocking and run blocking.

As an RB/FB, the most frustrating thing for us is when someone doesn't do their job. If a lineman doesn't block right or misses a trap or a cross-block, it means that a runningback or a quarterback is getting murdered in the backfield.

3. Practice is a B*TCH!
It's just a pain that you've gotta push through to play football. It's for your own good and the coached are just trying to field the best team. Lift and run all the time, always stay in shape.

As cliche as it sounds, even if you're not the most athletic or talented person, if you leave your heart on the field, the coaches will find a way to get you in.

its not all about size, its more so about speed and technique. i played defensive end freshman sophmore and junior year at 175 lbs going against guys 3x my size and beating them. why? because i was faster than them and had more technique (rips swims spins staying low)

if you want to play show off at practice. its as simple as that. if you do your thing at practice the coaches will see this andput you in. seems like your problem is endurance. no a coach wont put you in if he sees you lagging behind on the 100 yard sprints. for the record, 250 isnt that much. i've seen upwards to 400 lb linemen make that run and not complain a single bit of it. and you know what? it made them better in the process because you would NEVER see them doubled over in a game.

remembering plays isnt as hard as you make it out to be. remember the hole numbers. right is odd left is even.

1 between right center and right guard, 3 right guard and right tackle, 5 right tackle and tight end. opposite for left 2 4 6 8. if the qb calls a 35 dive the 3 back is getting the ball and running it into the 5 hole. simple right? as for blocking, you always block the man in front of you first even if its just a quick shove before you go for the linebacker. in most cases if the ball is being run up your hole you're going to give the man in front of you a shove and move on to the backer.

as for pulling, unless you've got the speed for it you probly wouldnt need to worry about pulling. anyway thats mostly for screens and tosses. and for passes you dont go anywhere. you drop back into your pocket formation and wait for someone to come your way. but you do not chase them because if you do you just open the hole.

if you want to start over the 5'7 guy you have to show him up at practice. you have to do better than him to be better than him. if you wanna do that just learn simple techniques. for d line fire off low. never stand up. if you do that you make the offense's block for them. for o line get your hands up under his shoulder pads and hold on. techinically its holding but you wont get a flag for it. take him for a ride. if you want any other help feel free to pm me.
