Let's say you have it, both hsv 1 and 2. No outbreaks so far, nothing. It's a ****ty thing to hide it from a potential sex partner. How would you go about it? When? Any experiences welcome.

is this before or after you kill the person who gave it to you?

you need to tell. by law and by conscience.

Eat the crap out of Valtrex, explain that you really can't get it if you are using a condom and get some connection first.

If you've never had an outbreak, I would question that you have it at all. You are probably talking about an antibody blood test. Unless you have sores or you give someone else sores, then for all practical purposes, none of it exists.

fwiw, I was married to a woman with herpes for 7 years and I never got it. She had the real kind where you actually get sores. I never got it and have been in several relationships since with no problem, including a current one of two years, and no condoms ever. I never took the antibody test, but I suspect that I would fail it as well.

I know, that's why I'm asking for tips. I can't think of a way to disclose it and not to make a woman run for her life.

Also, @Bible_Belt, I know I have it. Blood works and all. I hope to never get an outbreak, but the sh!t can be transmitted even without one...

That's not true. I highlighted the area of interest from the following excerpt
Herpes viruses cycle between periods of active disease—presenting as blisters containing infectious virus particles—that last 2–21 days, followed by a remission period, during which the sores disappear. Genital herpes, however, is often asymptomatic, though viral shedding may still occur.

In other words, you can still transmit the disease, without ever getting symptoms yourself. Not getting tested after having had a 7 year relationship with someone infected by herpes is irresponsible. You are basically sticking your head in your ass.

I'm not condoning NOT telling a partner so Im not gonna give you and advice about what you should and shouldn't do.

So many people have this and Im sure they don't tell other people or engage in sexual activity if an outbreak occurs. Some people have it and probably don't even realize they have.

It would probably NOT be smart to go screaming your business out to the world unless you have a good reason to.

I think some people have misunderstood me. I intend to tell my partners. I just don't know how to say such a thing.

If I wanted to hide it I wouldn't need advice.

From here, however, the question of transmissibility gets more complicated. Acquisition of one type is more difficult-though certainly possible-if you already have the other type. This is because either type, contracted orally or genitally, causes the body to produce antibodies, some of which are active against both HSV-1 and 2. This acquired immune response gives some limited protection if the body encounters a second type. When a person with a prior HSV infection does contract the second type, the first episode tends to be less severe than when no prior antibodies are present.
Well, theres really no other way than telling them bluntly.

P.S. I quoted that text because im suggesting that you may have not contracted HSV-2 at all. Go test yourself, dont live in uncertainty. Its plain stupid.

Asymptomatic viral shedding is a purely academic theory. If you know anyone who got herpes that way, they would be the first I've heard of. I have been asking this question for years. If you find someone who got it that way, they need to be documented. I think it's about as likely as a woman getting pregnant from a bl0wjob.

And I've had condomless sex literally about a thousand times with the girlfriends I've been with since getting divorced. If I have herpes, it is the imaginary kind that you get from the doctor, the kind that is designed to sell Valtrex prescriptions.
