I'm in a rut... I'm stuck in the same routine day in and day out. I even got the geeky-boring look down pat. I've lurking around since the ASF days but crashed & burned a few years ago. I think I know most of the material, but just can't seem to incorporate it into myself. Everybody wants to be the bad boy but I'm just his brother the account. Feeling sorry for myself isn't going to get anywhere so I'm hoping to get a jump start.

Can anyone help me find the light?

infact, i don't think you think thats the answer..

get some outside interests, be in a sports club, or a class etc..

then you've got something to do, somewhere to meet people, something to commit to and work at.

Uh watching a movie will probably influence you for... one or two days.

Having a new hobby is not going to change your personality overall.

Bud, you want to find your light and become more outgoing or interesting - that is up to you.

Join a running club, or take up rock climbing.

Ever delve into the extreme sports scene?

Go sky diving or bungie jumping.

Get certified on scuba.

Climb a decent sized peak.

Get that adrenaline pumping.

Live your life, that simple.

Bars and school alone wont cut it for many people.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I was going to respond with why I couldn't do this or that, and then realized that was just part of the problem. I guess what I really need is an attitude change. I hope today is the beginning of a new stage for me. Hopefully, I'll be running into interesting girl problems to post about in a few days or weeks.

don't feel too bad.

i'm boring as hell too.

my interests include watching movies (closer was really good), listening to music (the killers, muse and mars volta are soundin' really good lately), reading (catching up on the dark tower series) and computer graphics which is both a job and hobby.

but other than that i have no other activities except going out for dinner with friends, having a coffee and bagle while reading magazines at the borders, window shopping the mall and such.

and i suspect that the VAST MAJORITY of people have lives that are pretty much just like that.

i think maybe the other answers so far are not suitable answers to you because they are not suitable answers to you.

they're not to me.

and the advice to just get up and stop being boring is truly useful ain't it?
--------------------------------------------------

again, i suspect everyone's lives are just as mundane and boring as ours... it's just that most are just so full of shyt they can talk a pretty good game... among djs and perhaps among women.

and that may indeed be the answer.

i know for a fact that most people don't belong to the JETSET that can take off to rome and paris at a drop of a hat and a call to our personal pilot.

most of us don't have our private chopper to jump out of onto the slopes of some snow covered mountain somewhere.

we are workinig class people with pretty dull lives.

and sometimes you get the impression around here that maybe that's not good enough.

maybe it ain't... but then maybe the people giving advice don't occupy the same universe we do.
--------------------------------------------------

think about some of the advice around here... ATTITUDE... CONFIDENCE....

these things are USEFUL and GOOD.

but i know for a fact that most people are FVCKED UP TO HIGH HECK with personal and emotional problems so do the numbers....

it is a rare well adjusted person that you encounter in this hard, crazy world.

AND YET... AND YET....

we are told to be CONFIDENT....

CONFIDENT ... despite the fvcked up little lives we lead.

looking at it that way, it's almost all about 'fronting'.

put on the MASK.

put on your dj PERSONA who's larger than life.

appeal to every girl's FANTASY.

realizing, that in reality, you are not hugh hefner in a leerjet and she's not as hot as all that either.

but we APPEAL TO THE FANTASY.... and we understand that the underlying reality is to a lesser or greater extent DIFFERENT.

this is the game i think.

and i think that the answer may lie in the willingness to give up a stubborn grip of 'reality' as we see it to be to put on a character that embodies the ideals and excitement of a dj as defined round these parts.
--------------------------------------------------

for me though, the practical problem is not so much trying to become more exciting as simply having neat, fun places to take dates on.

dinner and a movie are a grand time out for me but i doubt that's gonna hold water for many girls for too long.

--------------------------------------------------

good luck... i know i'll need it.

You need to work on a set of skills that sets you apart from the rest and stop being a boring **** and feeling sorry for yourself.

Or consider the following careers,

1. Get a career in Acting

That way you can meet loads of women.

2. Become a nurse or Air Host

That way when u attend Christmas parties you get to have orgies with all the women since there are very few males in these sectors these days. U might even get the chance to nookie with a gorgeous air hostess on the plane (every mans dream).

3. Learn somthing about horoscopes or somthing that involves analysing peoples futures. Women love this sh*t and they will flock to you.

4. SALSA Dancing

Become a great salsa dancer. Women will flock to you. I went to the Salsa Paladium in Leciester Square once and saw this average looking bloke doing all the moves on the dance floor and the women loved it.

5. Learn a few Party Tricks

Learning a few tricks will make u the talk of the party

a. Learn how to chop a brick in half with your bare hands - Learn Iron Hand Kungfu

b. Learn a magical trick, making a coin dissapear or levitate ( u can buy books on this subject on amazon.co.uk

c. Learn how to read peoples handwritiing. Girls will want to chat to you as they dont know who they are or what they want themselves. (lots of sites on the internet)

d. Learn how to be funny or memorize one liners and learn how to incorporate them into everyday discussions.

Hope this helps :D

Answer sounds simple: get a life. But I, sharing your problem, know that it's infact not as simple as I make it out to be. You need MOTIVATION to get off that lazy ass and do something. Hell, that's the easy part. Sticking with it is the hard one.

Do extreme sports - winter = skiing/snowboarding, for example. Mountain biking is on my list as well. If you are more financially endowed than most, do skydiving and bungee jumping (once-twice doesn't cut it. Do it regularly). Water skiing, mountain climbing... Hell, take long hikes!

I find that being an outdoorsman give people many stories to talk about. So go ahead- get out of the city!

There are many things you can try - but ultimately it boils down to one thing - having something INTERESTING to talk about, not just anything (though fluff talk is a start). Those interesting things can be your experiencees, experiences of your friends, or intellectual opinions on whatever.

Trouble is Shadow, I think you know what to do, like just do something different/exciting, wear something a bit more fashionable etc etc.

Problem is, you don't know why you don't. Yes, you are in a rut, but how do you break out?

Top tip, think about the consequences of carrying on this way, what happend when you came to the end of your life and have done very little with it?

Feelings of regret and sadness? However from the perspective of your last day on earth, do you think the things you are putting off are really that scary compared to dying after a life of regret?

I suggest you become active on this forum. Get yourself onto the DJ boot camp.. Take your time, be patient. Alot of good mojo will grow on you in time.

Hopefully you will pickup the right attitude and motivation that will allow you to take small and simple steps. I'll call these baby steps on your progression to becoming a DJ. Heaven forbid - if looking for a chick is not your cup of tea, then possessing the confidence of a DJ will allow you to achieve other goals in life.

A begining is to start reading....fill your time with gathering as much information as possible friom anywhere. Then incorporate this into conversation...

I mean read anything, papers, books, mags, the net, blah...in a month you will know more than enough to blag an 'im interesting' personality.

You may be a geek for a few weeks, but seems like your there already so what have you got to lose?

Knowledge is power.

I read a lot of stuff during my free time but it's usually geeky type stuff that you can't really discuss with women. I would say just find some books or magazines that you would enjoy. Start going to the gym. Join a sports club as someone else said. I've done those two things and I feel like my life isn't as boring as it used to be.
