I just turned 24 n still live wit parents. It cost a lot for both, rent n gas. So which one would u pick 1st? N name the pro's n cons for your answer

i'd go for a car. Without a car you are quite stuck. Without a personal apt, you can still improvise - hotel, friends place who is not at home.

But eventually, you will need both. So get a job.

Depends on your situation.

Car:

Pros - transportation, possible jobs, whatever self esteem it gives you, makeshift bed,

Cons: While you can live in it, it's not recommended, high maintenance, risk of criminal activity, *** stains are hard to get out of seats, possible for you to land buttfirst on gear shifter and end up at the proctologist

Own Place:

Pros: Independence, looks mature, easier to clean errant bodily fluids, you answer to no one about the decor,

Cons: You do everything IE no parents to help you, added responsibility may drive you to insanity, rent, mortgage, possible goat pranking, possible weapons grade biological contamination from that garbage bag you neglected to toss out.

These are only a few i can think of, but in reality you need both.

OK, Now that I understand the question better it makes it more difficult to answer. I thought you meant having a nice car as in nicer than the one you already have, but you mean choosing between A car and a house.

In that case I'd say car, but I live in a rural area with no public transport. If I lived in a big city I'd choose my own place. It does come with a lot of responsibility, but it comes with a lot of perks too. Namely, as concerns chicks (your underlying motive I take it), it's much easier to bring girls home when you don't have to worry about waking up the parents. It also hints at responsibility, something chicks like. Let's face it, it becomes socially unacceptable to live with your parents once you hit a certain age. You also get to do anything you want without worrying about how your parents will react.

Honestly I really wish I had the funds to get my own place (25 btw).

thing is you don't really need a car/bike in nyc to get around. and apartments cost a lot more here than the rest of the country. I'd say get the apartment if you can pay the rent and still put money away, otherwise keep saving in case you need to travel for b-ball or whatever else.

I definately would go with having your own apartment, I read this about a year ago from a well respected member of SS:

Señor Fingers said:
Live Alone
I'm not saying that you can't go straight from you parent's house into moving in with your lover. Plenty of people have done it. But it's a lot more healthy and fun to have a genuine bachelor's phase under your belt first. Start out by getting some roommates so you can split the cost up, but set a real goal to one day live on your own.

There is nothing like having your own crib, yall. It really was a highpoint of my youth to have a place where I could do whatever I wanted: walk around nekkid, throw a party or invite a fly cutie back to my place. Man it felt good to say that... "Let's go to MY place"

Another great side effect of this is that it will help you to

Gain Independence
Get to know what it's like to pay rent, bills and maintain a household as an adult. Sure it's a pain and you'll often find yourself working very hard to keep yourself afloat, but this is a great step towards manhood and independence. Mom & Pop can't hold your hand forever, and to expect this of a potential love interest is foolish and immature.

Learn to cover your own ass and be self-sufficient. It's the best gift you can give yourself.

Stay Crispy and Clean
It's normal to experience a "frat stage" of youth. No one is on top of you to keep your room clean and most fellas tend to go buck wild. This is fine, but at some point you have to grow up.

Your surroundings are a reflection of your mind state and say a lot more about you than you'd like to admit. If you are a messy person, then you need to work on this right away. You will experience a whole other level of mental clarity when you live in a harmonious environment.

The simple rule to follow is this: Whenever you are done using something, clean up right at that moment. It's so much easier to maintain cleanliness than to do disaster recovery! Some examples:

- You just woke up. Make your bed right then and there
- You just had dinner. Wash the dishes while they are easy to clean
- You just stripped and showered. Put your clothes in the hamper
- The hamper is getting full. Wash your clothes
- The clothes are clean and dry Fold and put them away
- The bathroom is smelling funky. Scrub that sucker at least once every 2 weeks
- Most importantly make sure everything in your house has its place. You will never lose your keys again!

This is all common sense, but you'd be surprised how many people resist it, and make excuses like teenagers. As a man you need to grow out of this because an orderly environment is crucial in helping you stay focused and organized so you can handle your business.

Women will appreciate your cleanliness as well. Their worst nightmare is to become the nagging mother. One of the biggest turn-offs is the feeling that you have to be on top of someone constantly in order to get them to do basic sh!t..it creates a dysfunctional dynamic which is not fun for either of you.

NOTE: It is not common, but some women are bigger slobs than men. This is a RED FLAG! It is not normal for a gal to live in her own filth..the b!tch has issues! It's not a deal-breaker but it should set off warning sirens in your head. Either break her in to a healthier lifestyle, or next her!

As a man who has actually several of both, i would have to say an appartment/house/hole/abode/box/cave.

1) Property prices generally go up in the long term (UK).
2) Cars depreciate up to 40% by the time you leave the forecourt.
3) Having a nice car and living in a bad neighbourhood (having spent all your money on the car) can lead to having a place in a bad neighbourhood and discovering you have NO car one fateful morning.
4) Theres more of a "wow" factor when you bring a girl back to a nice place.
and many many more.

There is a way you can have both, get your appartment then buy yourself a nice secondhand "new shape" car, whack a private plate on it then tell everyone its new.

By the by, im Adrian, long time reader, first time poster :).

Hi,

Just out of interest, where do you live in the UK and what do you consider the most important criteria in choosing a place to live?

I'll be looking for my own place fairly soon and have a few ideas myself, just wanted to get a few peoples take on things!

Studying the fact that all lies contain fragments
Most young folks choose the car cause more chics see you in your car than see where you live... but as folks get older they think different... I dont want a house so live in a nice apartment my car , though it is a BMW is not flashy

Hi Mark,

I mainly live in the Birmingham region (out and inner city) i have an appartment and house in birmingham .

In regard to criteria, for me, i need the amenities of city life and it has to be in a good area. By good area, i mean clean streets, no litter, access to railways and shops/clubs and good roads.
Before buying property i often go to the local pub beforehand and see what the people in the area are like, meet/talk to the neighbours, pub landlords always seem to know whats going on, etc.
I always check for any housing/commercial development projects be they public or private to help me speculate on future house prices within that area.

When buying a property its important to know what you're able to spend REALISTICALLY and also be realistic about any improvements that have to be made if its a do'er upper. If you need a mortgage, shop around a bit to try and get the best deal, banks no longer generally do 100% mortgages due to the low liquidity reserve (credit crunch).
Theres so much more i could say as this is a massive topic.

Anyway hope this helps, you may have to work some magic (pun intended)
and best of luck.

Your fellow Lothario,

Adrian

Don is rite, which is y im torn in between. Yes I do want my own place, but if I do then I won't b able to buy a new car till anotha year or so. Plus more girls do see me wit the car then apt.

Im lookin at the results n apt is killing the car. But I think most of u are putting apt cuz u already have the car. I see a lot of ppl in this forum already got a car. See that's where the ? Is wrong. Put urself in my shoes fo a min. If you are young n only have money for one which one would it be n y?

Im leanin towards car because its acceptable in nyc to live with parents till about 26 cuz its expensive in nyc. Its not acceptable to have neitha, u have to have one or the other or be broke lol. Good answers so far tho

If you have nothing, then the car is your first step towards freedom. You can do whatever you want, whenever you want. A car might also lead you to a new job, and hopefully, some hot chick's apartment (cabs get expensive).

But I would still try hard to get that apartment as soon as possible because it will increase your confidence and swag around women by leaps and bounds. There's nothing more settling in your mind to know that you can bring her back to your own place and don't have to worry about anyone fvcking with you.

of course, you d want both, but that doesn't really answer your question...

I was actually in your same situation about a month ago when I moved to San Diego. With a limited budget, I had to figure out what I cared more about, having A car (can't even afford a NICE car at this point, just went back to school) and living in a tiny room far from the beach, or not having a car but getting a nice place close to the beach.

Since public transportation here is decent (but NYC is MUCH better) I chose the nice house. I got my own backyard, no roomates and it feels really good to say "wanna go back to my HOUSE?". It paid dividends since I already had 5 girls over...

so I would say anytime you live in a big city, get the nice pad first, and then try to save money to also get a car down the road.

Truth be told, If I had to choose, I would go with getting your own place first. Particularly if you are 24 and still living at home.

I have both, and got the car first. Hindsight tells me that I should have got the place first.

Don't get me wrong, a Car is good, it gets you places, you earn some independence etc. But. The price of petrol is increasing, my car alone costs me about $90 AUD for a full tank, add to that repairs, maintainance, upkeep, and your car will run you into a lot more money.

Getting your own place will do a lot more for your personality and your game. A car will increase your independence slightly, but when you get a place of your own, that's when you really start to become your own man. By showing that you know how to take care of yourself, you will help your game no end. Sure, the added responsibility can be a lot to deal with at first, but once you get there, you become a better person for it. I live a 5 minute walk from busses and trains and a $10 cab ride from the city centre. Transport is in no way a problem even though I HAVE a car.

So, my vote goes on the apartment. Hit it up in a nice area, and you'll be fine.

I could pull up to a girls house in a horse and buggy and get laid. And, she'd drive.

I got plenty of chicks when I picked them up in my dented 1999 chevy cavalier that sounded like a remote control car.

Also the apartment does help, but I try to get it done in her house if mine can be avoided.
