i notice when i wake up, its back to bed. but i know that once you start moving around, youll kick into waken mode. sometimes this takes 30 mins, even an hour for me, and that is just not efficient. do any of you have this problem?
any suggestions on what to do to just kick start your day without any bs problems?
heck, sluggish in general-nap in the middle of the day, and the whole thing repeats, just it's not at night anymore.
@%$@$
i started takin fish oil more yesterday, and i slept at 3am woke at 7am for a paper. didnt feel too tired! in fact once i got up to shut the damn alarm clock i felt kinda refreshed! i dont know if this is some weird coincidence, but if fish oil does affect it (doubt it) im just going to buy those sparkletts 5 gallon jugs and drink out of that!

sh#t, teenagers with no freakin energy.. what is the world coming to. you guys should be wired 24/7.

cut down on the drugs/alcohol/processed junk and eat some real food. you'll be jumping out the bed in the morning

perhaps you're expecting to get by with too little sleep. active guys under 25 need on the order of 9 hours of sleep, esp. if they're working out hard. but it can be hard to maintain this if your sleep schedule is thrown off (judging by the hours i post around here, it's clear that mine is off more than it's on)

DO NOT nap more than 20 minutes midday or you'll throw off your sleep schedule. avoid caffeine within 4-8 hours of bedtime (tolerance varies widely, depends on quantities & how your body metabolizes it) or suffer the same. if you're getting 8-10 hrs of sleep a night and still having trouble getting up, then you have a real problem :D

I don't do drugs or drink alcahol. I don't drink caffiene after 4:30 PM. I get at the least 8 hours of sleep every night. I never nap. I eat healthier than almost everyone I know. I get more sleep than most people I know.

Go figure...

You may need to look into a new matress. I had this problem for a long time and my doctor said it may be as simple as the sleep I'm getting, even 9 hours, may not be quality sleep. You probably don't even realize your not getting a good nights sleep. I'm not talking about constantly waking up or anything like that but you just might not be getting into REM sleep for long enough. I changed my matress from a soft to a more firm and I have much more energy in the morning.

i'll try it.
powernaps. try setting an alarm for a half hour from the time you lay down.

gotta tell you, i'm terrible about this, but when i get the napping & caffeine under control i sleep much better at night and wake up truly refreshed after 8.5-9 hrs.

with a sleep study they can show you that what you think is 8 solid hours of sleep probably isn't.

unfortunately the treatment options they propose generally aren't fun.....

does the time you go to bed matter as well? cause i live in a student house with 5 guys, and the average bed time is about 3. a.m, but my classes dont start till about 1 pm, so i sleep till about 11 or 12, which is still 8-9 hours a night, but im extremely tired all the time, and i do eat better than my friends, and i dont nap or consume caffeine before bed either GO FIGURE :)

I also believe it's the lack of deep REM sleep. Perhaps you have a lot on your mind too. And you're just thinking about things too much.

I think I saw once that most men only get about a maximum of about 4 hours of REM sleep, the rest is not good quality.
As you get older, you actually start to go into REM mode less.
And the more stress and anxiety you experience the less you will sleep well in general. Caffeine and stimulants allso affect sleep patterns, as they affect people differently. It may stay longer in one person's system than another's.

Look into

melatonin
Valerian root

ZMA (defintiely worth the money , and proven it works)

5 HTP

Also, look into meditiaiton/relaxation before bedtime. Soft music, and a cool, dark room helop you get to sleep faster and hopefully feel comfortable enough without the tossing and turning.

Yeah, same problem here. Often tired and slugglish during the day. Of course once I go to Krav Maga class in the evening, I'm full awake with the first minute of warmups. But before then, I could pretty much anytime before then, I could lay down and fall asleep in the day with no problem. I work from home now, but before when I was at a workplace, my lunch hour would mean parking my car in a shady spot, setting my cell phone alarm to go off in an hour and then going to sleep. My sleep quality at night is absolutely horrible. I wake up numerous times during the night, maybe as many as 10 times a night. It's always been like that. I can recall maybe 2 times in the last decade that I've slept the whole night through and not woke up. And when that has happened, I felt very good when I got up, so I think Interceptor is right about the REM sleep thing. But most the time, I feel like I'm at the twighlight stage of sleep. Kinda like a dog, they sleep, but yet they rarely sleep deep, all it takes is for a pin to drop and they are wide awake again.

If you want to talk, talk to your friends. If you want a girl to like you, listen to her, ask questions, and act like you are on the edge of your seat.
