Hats okay on a date?

I am going to see a movie with this girl this week and I wanted to wear a knitted hat like this.

My hair is kind of long/messy right now and I don't plan on getting it cut till next weekend. I actually think it looks good with the long hair and I have gotten a couple compliments but are hats a no-no on a date? I guess worst comes to worse I can play it off like a winter thing cause it's cold outside?
