A facility here in my city is offering a free one month trial for Krav Maga. I am interested in trying it out.

Anyone have experience?

Lucky!! When my @$$ is finally out of college, I'm going to start training in Krav Maga first chance I get. It seems like the most effective, efficient, and practical. MMA is a post, Krav Maga is self-defense, or so it seems

There are no belting systems and organized competitions in Krav Maga, so it's hard to assess instructors. Look for documented ties to Russia, maybe some sambo medals on the wall. When a martial art is in style and popular, you get a lot of impersonator sensais. Often they have backgrounds in Tae Kwon Do, but no one over 12 is interested in TKD these days, so they tell people what they need to hear to get them to pay. Beware of bullshido :D

There is also a Brazillan Jui Jitsu free month trial. Supposively these are two new programs this year and by the sounds of it they are promoting them to see just how many people have interest in them and how many potential clients they will get.

However, I know little of either school. Learning some basic training, an introducion to the art, and getting a good workout is what I'm after.

Peace and Quiet

If you currently have too many women chasing you, calling you, harassing you, knocking on your door at 2 o'clock in the morning... then I have the simple solution for you.

Just read my free ebook 22 Rules for Massive Success With Women and do the opposite of what I recommend.

This will quickly drive all women away from you.

And you will be able to relax and to live your life in peace and quiet.

krav maga is ok for your goals , wing chun is also suitable.

jiu jitsu, sambo , wrestling are a good workout but i never liked them since i'm too stupid to learn all those techniques :D

you could try aikido as well although it's more technique oriented rather than strength.
es :D

muay thai is full of injuries and immature wannabe MMA teenagers...add some meathead coaches as well and you have a **** pot,

MMA is full of wannabe coaches....it's an entertainment not an art

boxing is very practical and a good workout, but go easy on tournaments unless you wanna risk having a concussion

also you could try kendo or kenjitsu , i really liked them when i was a wee lad, though i sucked at it :p note that kendo might be expensive due to the equipment
taek won do sucks. period. any style that advocates kicking above your head is BS IMO.

just my two cents :box:

REAL taekwando, in KOREA, is as bad ass as such training ever gets. Here, tho, if you trained people like that, you'd get your ass sued off, and almost everyone would quit.

I've been training Commando Krav Maga for 8 years. I know the "commando" part might sound funny to some people, but it is the real deal. It works based on raw instinct and natural movements, so it flows easily and naturally. It is the most practical system out there. No pesky belts or styles. Crap like "crouching tiger" doesn't mean sh!t in a real street attack.
Stay away from MMA. It's a trend. In a real street attack, you're fighting for your life, not trying to make the guy tap out.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I had my first Krav Maga class tonight. It was pretty awesome. We learnt some moves and went contact with hand bags with each other. It's quite the workout. :box:

I"ve seen my MooDukKwan intructor (in Korea) kill a pig with a single spear hand strike to the area behind its foreleg. It weighed about 80 lbs, and 2 guys stretched it out on the ground. He went to one knee over it and screamed as he struck. That pig squealed once, thrashed around a few seconds, and was dead. He stopped that thing's heart. I watch him "tune up" for this show, for about a week. He set up a large box full of gravel, and as he taught us, he'd be thrusting his spear hand into the gravel, about halfway to his elbow!

Moon was 5'4" tall, 160 lbs, and could do 1 armed pushups all DAY, and I don't mean turned sideways, spraddel legged, either. I mean feet together, and the hand centered under his sternum, elbow out at shoulder height. Anyone who "thinks' that TKD is a laugh doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground, actually.
