Happiness is being satisfied with what you've got. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't try anything new of course, because that would become boring, and thus you wouldn't be satisfied with what you have. Still, there is a line in one of the Roman poet Horace's Odes that goes thus:

The less I desire, the more I seem to have.

Happiness is not a state of mind. You can't choose to be happy when you're hurt. It's just plain denial.

To explain happiness is like trying to explain what love is.

There is no answer.

However, I do somewhat agree with Aristotle when he says that it might be a process where we put value in what we perceive to make us happy and trying to attain it.
