Ask a stylist.

Gel makes your hairy noticably shiny; maybe it's mousse?

Somebody? What holds your hair bt doesnt make your hair shiny?

Tell her a little about yourself, but not too much. Maintain some mystery. Give her something to think about and wonder about when she's at home.

they discuss different types of hair products, but i think this is the one you are looking for:

Pomade
Most pomade products provide a combination of conditioning, styling, shinning, and texture-enhancing ingredients. It works best for short to medium length hair. Use for holding, shaping and defining your hairstyle.
Pomade also allows you to have a natural look and adds texture. It's a great product for more stylish haircuts and for that "messy" look.

How To Use It
Skim a small quantity onto fingers. Rub your fingers together and apply to your hair. Distribute evenly where molding is needed.

Main Benefit
Only small quantities are needed and it really gives your hair great texture.

Main Drawback
When too much is applied, it might give your hair a greasy look.

Celebrity hairdos that are perfect for pomade:

Brad Pitt

Pick a girl...
Step 1: Wash your hair with shampoo that has volume enhacing formula

Step 2: Dry your hair with a towel until it is moist

Step 3: Apply hair spray (not styled yet)

Step 4: Rub towel over hair until your hair is styled (im assuming you know how you style it without a comb or brush)

Step 5: When you have that look you want, spar hair spray over hair generously

Step 6: Do not blow dry. Blow drying it will give it a wet look. Leaving to dry by itself will get the dry look

Step 7: Fix the front. The front is usually never styled by a towel alone. Use your fingers to fix imperfections

Step 8: Go out there and strut!
