I’m graduating from college this summer and I had originally planned on moving to a bigger city, but a pretty decent job came up in town. The town is about 5000 people. I have lived in small towns my whole life and was looking forward to moving to a bigger city. I know I should take the job and probably will considering I don’t have a whole lot of money to just pick up and move. Plus the job is in my related field so I get the experience on the resume. But what keeps nagging me in the back of my head is the job requires I stay for 2 years and being stuck for 2 years seems kinda long. Also I was looking forward to meeting some new women in a new place and I’m not sure how it’s gonna work out for the next 2 years. I need some lovin every now and then, you know? So I have somewhat of a dilemma, get a pretty secure job in a small town for the next 2 years, or take my chances and move somewhere else and hope I can find a decent job.
At times getting the secure job seems like a no brainer, but then I think of my social life and meeting women/friends. Anyone else from a small town and can relate?

Keep the secure job, use online dating (including long distance relationship). It's a tough economy out there...

What field are you in? finance?

I would go with the secure job first. 5000 people is quite a lot, so there must be some pickings there. Also, when you have a good job and some green in your pockets, plus a nice pad, your confidence should be through the roof. Just tap every peice of ass in that town, once your supply is out move onto bigger and better things. Also, there is always a get out clause, so I bet you could leave any time you want.

Cushy job

Dear sir

It's a no brainer (right expression?).

With your degree and your job, young interesting women will line up for you. Also, you will face less cuthroat competition and stress in that job than in a city. The stress of work can quite kill you. I know, I'm originally from a similar sized town and I now live in a city of 500 000 persons.

Don't forget, for a small town of 5 000 souls, you are quite a catch for a woman. Their choices are quite limited in a town of that size. Take your time and choose carefully because you will have some choice.

Have a nice life.

Speaking as one with over 20 years in computers (and a Masters) a B. S. in computers is well, bs. What you should collect now is experiance and it sounds like the job opportunity you are being offered is just that. After a couple of years you'll be able to go out into the bigger world and get a high paying job (unless you're sortta dumb like me and stay working for colleges where you don't get a high paying job). :D

The women? Well you're still young, that means LOTS of time for them!

Ask yourself:
What city I want to move to?
Have I been to it? liked it?
Do I have a job offer in that city?

It appears that now you don't even know what city and what job you will have there. If you have time, do research and look for a job in big cities. If you have to accept job offer in your small town tomorrow - dont bother about research, accept the offer, and slowly start thinking where you want to go, after a year start looking for a job in that area...

But it all depends...I have lived in a small city for four years, and all those sheep and population with high percentage of uneducated bumpkins sometime drive me nuts. Sure I'd go to a big city.. but you gotta be prepared.
