met a girl at a happy hr 2 days ago. she wanted to exchange numbers. i got hers, she made sure i called her so she could save the number.

txt her today asking for dinner. she responds playfully, referencing a dirty joke i said at the happy hr, but no answer re dinner. we chit chat for a bit:

Her: "i'm writing a note right now that's due tomorrow, and I kinda wanna cry."

me: why do 2Ls [ed: 2nd year law students] put so much work on themselves?

her: i dont think it's all 2Ls. just me. blah

her: itll all be over soon at least

me: you're telling me. i already have the foot out the door

me: i want to see you this week (head to europe on sat), preferably after ur note is handed in, and preferably after youre done crying.

and here's the punchline

her: I don't think it'll work - it's kinda complicated but basically my ex is coming to visit this week :|

her: just thought instead of going around in circles about this stuff i'd just lay it out there.

me: idk what u were expecting after thursday, but it's all good

what should i do? forget about it? text when i get back from spring break? what went wrong?

You can't do anything about that, and there is nothing that went wrong. People have ex's, and they pop them back in their lives. Chalk it up to bad timing, and either forget about her, or try back at a later date.
