Ouch!

I dunno? ...it didn't hurt really, I was asleep, but a few hrs later... BLAM! There it was. One bite gave me a lil golfball size bubble on my face.

Went to the doctor.. they told me to take the following.

Doxycycline Hyclate (100mg), and Prednisone (20mg)

Just wondering if anyone knows what this stuff is, and if I should take it?
Isn't one a steroid?

Take whatever the doctor prescribed you, there is no "walking off" a Brown Recluse bite. In the USMC, I saw what happens when guys allow a Recluse bite to fester.

Prednisone is absolutely a steroid and one with serious side effects. But it is also a strong immunosuppressant and is a good anti-inflammatory drug, which should help with a brown recluse spider bite.

If you are taking it for more than a week make sure you taper it off. Most steroids are like that since they start mirror natural occurances in your body. And monitor your blood sugar.

Are you sure it was a brown recluse? Have you seen pictures of those bites? The poison kills the skin cells, is very nasty.

Years ago I got several very small bites, that I later figured was a brown recluse. I "toughed it out", but it literally took months to fully heal. The poison just keeps eating the skin. I was fortunate to only get a tiny amount of poison..but it left scars.

I still have scars on my arm from those bites.

I sure hope it wasn't a brown recluse, that bit you in the face.

Brown recluse bites can cause necrosis. That's something you really don't want.

My face has gotten better. A few days ago, I had a lump the size of a golfball on my face. Now, it just looks like Drew Bree's birth mark. :) ...which isn't too cool either. lol

It may not have been a BRS... because my face is still intact, but I did get bitten by something, and my face swelled up like a mothasucka.

I haven't been taken the steroid, but have been taking the antibiotics. Seems to be working. Here's hoping it doesn't get any worse.
