See I actually think that the deadbeat dad has been more beneficial to humanity than the software developer. He has directly contributed to the survival of humanity by creating 20 additional humans. It is unlikely that the software developer's work contributed as much to society.

Keep in mind though, the software developer is just an example, and probably a bad one actually... good software developers are rare and their work is actually often very beneficial to society. What I meant when I initially said "mid-level software developer who has no kids" was an average white-collar worker with no kids.

And yes I guess you are right when you say that one person doing a little bit of good is a benefit to humanity. Their life isn't "worthless" or anything but it's certainly (in my opinion) not as valuable as the life of someone who will have a family and whose kids will have families of their own. Without people like this, humanity would cease to exist.

I'm not trying to say that people who don't have kids are worthless. However I'll say this: I don't understand how anybody could NOT want to have kids at some point in their life. The humans who survive and reproduce are the ones who keep humanity alive.

Here's a little glimpse as to why I probably feel this way:

I'm guessing this isn't the case for you (since it probably isn't for most people) but I am the last male in my family who can pass on our name. If I die without having kids, the name dies with me. To me, it feels like not having kids would mean the whole family ended because I failed to reproduce, which obviously would feel like failing. This is why I definitely plan on having kids, and probably why I feel this way about having kids in general.
Forgot about this thread. Ah your mindset makes a bit more sense now. I'd imagine I'd feel different if my family name was in jeopardy.

OP stop listening to fvcking Drake. I swear most of the AFC tendencies men get come from listening to sappy music. Lol seriously though my first comment still stands. The man who relentlessly pursues success in neglect of everything else is in just as bad shape as the man who does nothing productive and only pursues pleasure.

This view seems to prioritize the physical above everything else. As if, what humanity is would cease to be if our physical vehicles were destroyed. Yes and No: we also have souls.

A musician who has no children, but creates music that touches thousands of listeners - isn't that the point of all this being alive? To develop our souls and spirits and hearts and minds? And what about the childless author, who brings delight and great imaginary experiences to the minds of thousands? What is the purpose of being born and having a body here if you can't have experiences that touch your heart and mind? So the artists give meaning to the Life that the parents are creating.

Also, its a dangerous thing to think that any man's worth is a thing for us to stick in the balance and judge by his outer works. Men aren't justified by their accomplishments.. it only looks that way when we decide to judge them by accomplishments. Men are justified by their Souls and the fact that they have been created by someone who doesn't care whether you build Microsoft or just do nothing all day. Many of the highest-souled people to come into this world, chose to do nothing, and they live obscurely in America or Tibet or Mexico or India or wherever. They chose to do nothing because they understand that there are worlds above this one, goals above the goals of getting things in the world, and higher accomplishments than Microsoft or [insert great business success here]. Just my opinions fired off at random into a text box.

They say a mans purpose must come before your relationship, so I assume that means women if you are single as well
