"Here in England everyone uses gloves"
Can somebody else prove that?
I don't use gloves for several reasons.
-I like knowing the feeling of the bar in my hand
-I am less clumsy without gloves on
-I'm always working on the firm but gentle grip(
Which may be your problem grr, loosen your grip on the bar, it gives your arms a greater capacity to reach a lower stress limit
-The more you use your hands, the more comfortable you are with them in other aspects. If you wore gloves to play darts, and pool, and diving, biking, and boxing, than sure, use gloves when you train. "train the way you play"
Rubbing, and teasing your muscle should work fine as well. Blisters form when the friction cause hotspots under your skin, your body goes to work to heal the source. As your hands develop, the healing skin always has waste products that your body cleans out slowly, creating callouses. If you maintain your training, the callouses should become tougher, or create malignant 'tumors', nothing to be afraid of, it's just a way of saying dead skin that doesn't heal. Change your grip, as a constantly rubbed 'hotspot' creates pus blisters,
Gloves sap sweat from your hands, the culprit that causes loosening grip. If you remember to powder(chalk) your hands and bring a towel with you your problem can be avoided. If it's a grip problem, practice before a deadlift, have the bar on the floor, and test to see how easy it is for your hands to begin to slip.
Other than touching girls, if you use your hands for anything else, I think gloves only hinder any possible progress. Plus increasing my grip weight, strength, and sensitivity are a plus to my supplemental training
