I've had chicks go monosyllabic on me before. I cannot stand it. I give them three chances, as in 3 questions for a convo. If all I get are one word answers, I simply break off and talk to someone else. It's not worth my time to prod this kind of situation.
Everytime I've done this, 70% of the time they'll come after me and now THEY'LL try start the convo. I'll be difficult for a bit, but then I'll settle into the convo mood.
Yes it's a stupid game. Unfortunately we all have to play it. Peak said it best : "We should just adopt a winning position in the game, rather than try convince ourselves that there is no game."
So if they do come after you, great, mission accomplished, minimal work on your bit. I don't like to nag anyone for a convo, because the fact is even I don't feel like chatting from time to time. That's how the other 30% feel. And from those, 2/3's will try start a convo the next time.
As for that other 1/3, well, no loss. There are other people in the world. You said it yourself Sync, it takes two people for a convo to work. You can't expect to clap with just one hand.
