Girls choose which muscles they see?

I've come to the conclusion that girls can be so delusional that they have their own metric of deciding who is "muscular" and who isn't. Not that physique is everything, but this is getting silly.

Last week, I was hanging out with a friend of mine. We sometimes see each other at the gym - he's in pretty good shape, but I lift consiberably more than he does and am probably in a little better overall shape (core, conditioning, etc.). He's 5'11" and has the pretty-boy look, I'm 5'7" and don't have a pretty-boy face, but am built like a running back (45/46 chest/shoulders, 33 waist). We see a girl we know, and she went on about how jacked he was. He and I looked at each other in surprise, but there's not much we could really say.

This has happened a couple of other times. One of my close friend's younger brother started working out and is in the process of building muscle, but isn't all the way there yet. My friend's gf says, "He's really pumped." Seems I only have an "alright, I guess" physique. My friend thought she was kidding. In college, a girl went after my taller friend who was bone skinny, but said how he's "so muscular." My friend half-joked about it, but she was serious!

So, my friends and other guys see things as they really are, but some girls pretend I have no muscle at all (and these aren't sh*t tests). I'm not a meathead, but I take pride in my physical conditioning. Have any of you seen or experienced this?

Short guys look "stocky" not built. If a tall guy is even remotely built, he will look jacked to women.

I worked out like a beast, built up a solid physique, lacked the prototypical 'pretty boy' face. My working out didn't help me land women, or make me more attractive than my pretty boy scrawny friend.

It isn't their physique they're attracted to necessarily but their overall look. The 'Abercrombie' type of guy will most of the time trump the stalky muscular guy when it comes solely to looks and what women prefer.

I'm 5'9 and most of my friends are taller. You know how I stand out? I have a personality. Put the weights down for a tiny bit and read a book or two to stimulate your mind.

Im 6'1'' and im not jacked but my chest is pretty chizzled. When i wear anything white it pops out and i always catch girls looking at it on campus. Aslong as youre taller than most dudes and you have a good physical feature (biceps) (chin) (chest) (wide back) girls love it.

If youre tall, no matter how ugly you might be, you can pull a chick or two. Its just the way girls are.

Im 5'9, and bettering my physique, as well as growing my hair and dressing well have had positive impacts on my dating life. My hair and physique and definitely what girls seem to like the most. Im built like a muscular soccer player and I aim to have the body of Ronaldo, and if I plan to get any bigger Id try to get a sprinters body. (objective always being the lean but decently muscled look)

Thats what girls like the most, lean with some muscle. And if a guys got height, even better. The problem is that once dudes dip below the average height mark, too much muscle makes you look stocky, in which case you appear shorter than you are. Same thing happens to women if their frame gets too large on a short body.

An outgoing personality helps me a good bit too. And there are times I wonder how much better I might do with women if I was 6'0 tall or more. For now I just focus on training my body to be in peak condition, and dressing well. Feel good, look good. Look good, feel good.

Is your friend leaner than you LadyKiller? Being lean gives the illusion of being "jacked".

A girl I knew was seeing this guy she liked, she always used to go on about how muscular he was. He was tall, but other than that nothing special. But she would say that his muscles weren't really thick, but "long". So in other words, he was just tall.

I'm 6'1" and man let tell you its ass backwards down in my neck of the woods. Women over here go for either the model pretty boy ambercrombie or the little short scrapper type. Both of which are always short im taller than most people in the College except for some guys in baseball. I'm fvcked because ive been focusing more on losing weight than putting on muscle (didn't want to work out and have my fat bulge out like my friend) I got naturally wide shoulder and im pigeon chested as well but im not quite in the physical shape to be pulling women left and right.

Where are you guys at where the wirey men are getting all the women?

So yet again, it comes back to height. Sigh. I look normal enough, but built up muscle so I would not be short and scrawny, like I used to be years ago. My personality is outgoing, but it's not a home run with everyone.

How big are your biceps? That's what they notice more than anything.

As shallow as it is...this is pretty accurate. Amongst us bodybuilding types, to us a good, well rounded physique is one with broad shoulders, a wide and thick back, strong core, big legs and a$$. But girls dont think that way. If they can see big veiny biceps peeking out of your shirt sleeve....a lot of times they will pick that over the guy with an "aesthetic" physique that is actually a strong guy rather than someone just doing biceps three times a week..

Same thing with chest. I read somewhere a poll where girls said the most attractive muscles they find on a guy are the biceps (or arms in general), and the chest. Now dont get me wrong, i'm still going to focus on shoulders and back because thats where the real power lies...but dont underestimate these "glamour" muscles.

and what the other posters have said is true:

Manlets in general will never make up for their stort stature by being super buff. Sorry guys, dont mean to hate. But even if you become incredibly jacked, you will still be overlooked in favor of taller guys with the Michael Phelps physique. Lean and tall with a bit of muscle seems to be the sweet spot with MOST girls. Obviously some prefer the meathead look, and some prefer even very skinny.

However, what you lose in girls being attracted to you, you gain in how men respect you in terms of muscle mass. Meaning: while girls may not like (or at least say they dont like) extremely built, muscular guys..all of the other guys in the room will immediately respect you more if you're built like a mountain.

I still believe the ideal body type is the tall, muscular (but not bodybuilder big), extremely lean, vascular look similar to those guys on the cover of fitness mags.

Being very lean helps you look much more muscular than you are. Another point to be made is tanning. Being tan helps immensely with how your muscles look

^Dunno...my chest, butt and shoulder taper have always gotten me the most compliments. Girls also seem to notice that I have legs proportionate to the rest of my body.

Maybe its just the kind of girls I date.

Yeah biceps have nothing to do with it. Multiple studies on attraction show that its all about the shoulder to waist ratio. Too much muscles are bad, too little muscles are bad, too much fat is bad. Tall and lean is the best spot to be in. I'm 6'2 so I'm curious to see if heads will start turning when I finally get myself in good shape.

Women love the muscular/lean look. At my best i always got massive comments and women got very touchy with me every time i was out. Even guys would comment on my body. I had a very low body fat but with rock hard muscles. 28" inch wast with a wide back and shoulder, muscular chest, huge but very lean bi/tricep... muscular quads/hams...etc. The way i did it was go on a really hard cutting stack with alot of cardio every day, especially playing alot of basketball. once i got to a very low weight of 167 pounds at 6' foot i decided to jump on a prohormone and hardener stack and hit the weights very hard. I hit 178lbs with nothing but muscle lol. Lets just say women were drooling and when i walked into a bar more times than not, i made alot of other guys look real bad. Alas,... after alot of partying and drinking my waist got flabby around the love handles area and my gains slowly dwindled. I Still look good but not where i was before. I am currently on a cutting stack again with a very clean diet and drinking lots of water to get rid of the flab and lean up... then build that muscle again.

Overall, If you can get muscular but very lean... you'll be pulling no doubt. Women want to feel what a rock hard man feels like. I dont care what they say, i know first hand what a great body can do and it does indeed make those panties drip. Maybe its the aura of testosterone or masculinity but they love it. it shows power, strength and the ability to fight/protect/intimidate. Getting that body you want is just like anything else... Dedication in the weight room but most importantly diet and taking the proper supplements to help attain your goals. Also reading up on articles on how to maximize your workouts and proper compound movements that will hit those muscles to grow.

This is true. The other night I was at a hotel party and one of the girls mentioned that I had rock hard muscles. Later the night she also mentioned that I looked like a statue. lol

Question for you.

I've been working out 12 years and I still look like a starving Somalian kid. Do you think I should start using roids?

I've really run out of things to do. When I work out, I feel better but my body is not responding to it. Tearing myself to shreds has done nothing to improve my physique.

When it comes to mass, it all comes down to your calorie intake vs. calorie burned.

Go on a caloric surplus and lift heavy and you will transform without using roids.

I think maybe its a combination of how your lifting, proper food to make yourself grow, wrong or no supplementation. If youve been working out for that long and still very skinny, maybe you have an ectomorph type body and need more intake to grow? Sometimes its difficult to give others advice because honestly im a straight up Mesomorph and have my fathers genetics who ran track and did some bodybuilding but this is what i meant before on doing research and reading articles to see what can work for your body type.

Look at your body as a science project and you having to find the right ingredients to have the outcome you want. Jumping on roids will help and it wont help. Steroids are best taken advantage of when everything is in order (diet, Workout plan etc).

Maybe this article can help you understanding the body type you have. http://www.muscleandstrength.com/articles/body-types-ectomorph-mesomorph-endomorph.html

If your metabolism is very fast and it makes it hard for you to grow and gain weight/Muscle, maybe consider a weight gainer powder than can help feed those muscles to grow and lift heavy adding more calories and protein.

If it's not your workout, it's your recovery. You said you're tearing yourself to shreds, so i'm going to assume your intensity is high. The key components to muscle recovery are:

1) Diet
2) Sleep
3) Water

Assuming you're sleeping enough and staying hydrated, you need to eat more. I am also a hardgainer, and while eating clean and healthy is important, sometimes its simply too hard or time consuming to get enough calories eating clean. For one month, continue to train hard (maybe switch up your workouts), and eat as much as you can stomach. When i was making my biggest gains (and yes they were lean gains), i literally ate 5 times per day, and for each meal i would FORCE myself to each until i almost felt sick. A good trick to try is have a small amount of sugary drink or sweet fruit and take bites or sips of that while your forcing down those calories....for some reason sips of that sugar made me able to eat more grains and meat etc without feeling full..

Here are some great, dense foods for gaining:
Pasta (Killer right here. This was my bread and butter. I could sit down and eat hundreds and hundreds of calories of pasta. Obviously, put ground beef in it to keep your protein consumption up.
Potatoes/Sweet potatoes
Rice
Fish - tilapia, salmon, tuna, anything really
Meat - Duh
Chicken - duh

Re-introduce less lean foods. Buy the 80/20 ground beef, buy the whole milk, the 2% cottage cheese, you need the calories.

Also...liquid meals. Normally i advocate solid whole food. But for hardgainers, sometimes you simply cant get the amount of protein. Try this:

2 scoops whey protein
1 tablespoon olive oil
Tablespoon of milled flax seeds
~1/2 cup quick oats
big glob of peanut butter
Milk - as much as it takes to cover all this stuff and mix it in (you can even do whole milk if you really think you need the calories

BLEND IT ALL UP and drink it. I would say twice per day, in addition to 3 full solid meals.

MEXICAN FOOD is your best friend. make your own burritos. You can cram SO MANY calories in those things. Fill that sh!t with rice, chicken/meat, cheese, spinach, veggies, and cram it down.

Also, As a hardgainer, I ALWAYS eat a big meal before bedtime. You can also replace it with one of those ^ shakes. If you dont have time/ money for a meal before bed, try a big cup of cottage cheese, with orange slices in it, and some type of grain.

MORE FATS - good fats are your best friend if trying to bulk. They get a bad rap, but fats are great (yes, even saturated fats), and i personally respond well to a higher fat diet than most. Olive oil is your best friend, drizzle it on pasta or garlic bread, mix it in your shakes. Hell, i even used to take shots of straight olive oil when trying to bulk.

BREAKFAST - idk about you, but im never hungry in the morning. Its probably because i sleep ALOT. Like 10hrs a night, and my metabolism basically shuts down. In order to stimulate my appetite, i would make these greasy english muffin sandwiches: breakfast sausage, egg, cheese, plenty of butter. Tons of calories to kickstart my metabolism for the day and knock a bunch of my daily caloric requirements out of the way.

YOU NEED TO TAKE DRASTIC STEPS if you're not gaining. Eat, eat, eat. Try it for a month or two.

Blend it all up,
