If I think a girl likes me a bit when I'm talking to her and we're at a party where it's pretty comfortable AND I think she's suspicious of my intentions I'll start telling her she *might* make a good buddy (I like to casually LJBF ASAP in most cases where she's suspicious, it's like kryptonite!) and then mess with her by looking closely at her upper lip, moving my finger in the edge of her nostril and start laughing.
It seems to work in disarming her cause she'll go "ewww" or whatever and get playful like she was in jr high. A "scene" has never happened because of it, but then again, I don't go all the way in.
It could be the shock of "no one's ever done that since i was a kid" or whatever but it does change the whole frame somehow and they get comfortable (chicks are weird, whatever works!). Also, it's my personal version of the "kiss test" where it would be a bad idea to try that. If she's repulsed by my hand getting near and/or touching her face, I'm already toast. If not, it's all good!
I wouldn't try that at a club, just when a girl is safe setting like a house party where she knows people. I'm sure I'd come off as a total creep as a guy if I did it there.
Maybe something you did set off the playful young girl in her?
